Three-Thing Thursday

This is a repeat of a picture I posted here some time ago. A time when the grass was green. Leaves were green. Horseflies were rampant. And snow wasn't coming down horizontally was something that only happened in Antarctica.

This photo is just another reminder that spring and summer are around the bend.

One blink, and it will be Memorial Day. Blink again and you're welcoming September. The third blink seems to invite Christmas, and after a fourth blink your child has aged 10 years and you begin to receive mail from AARP.

Welcome to Three-Thing Thursday, where I share three things and you share three (or more) things, whatever you want. Anything at all.

Here we go.

1. Yesterday I received one of the greatest gifts I could ever hope for, and that's a story from the late 1930s/early 1940s about the Old Mill Skating Rink and my favorite grandmother's sister, Nellie. Nellie lives with her husband Bill in Florida. They grew up in Gloucester and their love affair would make an incredible movie. (Producers? Are you listening?)

2. Tomorrow I'm going to post the skating rink story, written by Bill, which is more valuable to me than anything and everything in Fort Knox.

3a. My trip to NYC was cancelled by Mother Nature.

3b. This week I had to scrape ice off the inside of my windshield. The interior. I'm not making this up, thanks to a leak in my windshield and/or sunroof in my Saturn. Did I miss the recall on Saturns for interior frost problems?

Now it's your turn to share three things. Whatever you want. Anything at all.

On your mark, get set, go.

Holy crap! No one can get to New York? Can I still be jealous?

1. We are expecting snow....not enough to ruin travel plans..if I had any.

2. I'm hating this global warming thing that's ruining everyones' plans with SNOW!

3. Can't wait for Saturday and my granddaughter's first track meet in Dallas.

1. Today is day four where the entire world (in the DC area) has been canceled due to emergency weather conditions.

2. Amazingly, our "current" is still on! And the worst of the wind seems to have died down.

3. I am becoming increasingly unable to recall what day of the week it is. They are all the same. I might shower, blow-dry my hair and put on makeup today. Then again I might not. Why bother? I'm still at home with the kids. Again. Because of the snow.

4. So I'm lovin' Mother Nature almost as much as you are right about now...

1. I began to get really down yesterday when I realized you all weren't coming because of the weather.

2. I'm hoping to still be able to make it up there, maybe have dinner with my son and Daryl & Ray. IF we ever get out of this driveway.

3. Can't wait to read your story.

1. It is currently snowing in Texas!

2. When it snows in Texas you should stay home - we don't have snow plows or people who know how to drive in snow.

3. I can't take pictures to prove that it is snowing because BOTH of my cameras have dead batteries!

1. Now what am I supposed to do with all the energy I put into my jealousy of your NYC trip????
2. Why didn't someone ever tell me that if I actually listened to Alison Krauss's music that I would love it?
3. Buy a Chrysler and help pay my mortgage.

1) Horrible ice-cold wind whistling straight off the snow-capped mountain to the north visible from my office window, onto my fingers at the keyboard.
2) Horrid translation on home-made arms in prison - I'm learning a lot!
3) Am I the only person in the world who hangs washing out in the winter and then leaves it on the line until the weather gets better?

2. We've had no snow here this year.

3. In your blinking theory, you missed the blink that should be the one for July Blogfest.

I hope some natural disaster doesn't prevent the Baroness and I from attending.

1. My grandmother calls El Nino Hell meano, not because she thinks its hell or mean, that's just what she thinks it's called. It's apt.

2. when you have 26" and get another 20" or so, that means you have 46" of snow on the ground.

3. I'm longing to go to work just so I can get out of my house and away from my kids who are driving me nuts- at least I had the good sense to make them clean the house today.

1. Could be caused by dew disease of the brain:

"After reviewing the comments, we believe there have been direct or implied threats against residents or former residents who have attempted to communicate issues in the county."

2."NewsChannel 3 has been asked by some residents to set up a secure "tip line" for those who have concerns about Mathews and what's happening there."

3.
"When NewsChannel 3 began digging for information on this story, not a single of the dozens of Mathews residents contacted would speak on-camera about the accusations."

How many times has anyone ever seen a News media organization write an open letter to all the citizens of a particular county due to widespread reports of abuse and corruption? Scary....

1. I won't complain about weather here.
2. Yesterday our ancient maine coon cat had his last trip to the vet. Second cat in a month. It was time, poor baby.
3. Due to bad planning I have eaten quite a lot of slightly-burned bean stew this week. It isn't so much a problem for *me* as for *everyone in the room with me.*

Hang in there, Snow Babes!

1. I am having a crappy day.

2. But not as crappy as you, with your non-trip.

3. And not as crappy as Dog, who, in a fit of pique (mine, not his), I got castrated today. It's helpful when: 3a) My best friend is a vet tech and: 3b) my father was a vet. YES WE CAN!
