Tradition

“Tradition does not mean a dead town.
It does not mean that the living are dead,
but that the dead are alive."
- G.K. Chesterton

"Traditions thrive in this small town.
Thank goodness."

  5. I think traditions are what make the world go round. At least they do for me. Be it an annual picnic, a reunion, or even the Crab Carnival for Pete's sake. Now THAT'S a tradition! Just having something to look forward to the same time every year with close friends and family.

  6. Those are truly wonderful pictures of a beautiful boat. That boat may have been built by Mr.Edward Diggs a Mathews native. He has been a master boat builder all of his life. Or maybe it was Mr.Francis Smith of Guinea or Grover Lee Owens of Deltaville. Who knows, either way,she is a thing of beauty on the water. A classic Chesapeake Bay deadrise at her best. The tradition of boating building is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Also note the "Guinea Stick"(tiller)located in this boat. In time both the "Guinea Stick and the Chesapeake Bay deadrise will join these boat builders as a tradition.

CBW,these beautiful pictures you have captured in today's post and the many others you have photographed in previous post are at the heart of my tradition.

  7. Since I am from a broken home, I make my own traditions. My favorite one is not doing the dishes. While a brass band plays the Washington Post March.

  8. I love Waterman JP's comment, (and if I could win a lottery, I would become a patron of seafarers to boost that tradition.)Honoring my great grandpa fisherman in Norway, who was lost at sea.
Dghawk--I miss you on the other blogs, but glad you stay in touch here-I agree w/ the crab hat tradition !!
I also heard the song from Fiddler on the Roof the moment I saw the boat's name.
W.O. Waverley-- I have the same dish washing (avoidance) tradition, too.

  10. Being Italian there are many Traditions that we observe. They are mainly done around a particular Holiday, but a Tradition none the less, its nice, I just hope the next generation (my kids) keeps them alive.

I have been meaning to ask you how is your camera doing? Did the change of batteries help any...

Thanks for reading and thanks for leaving a comment. I thoroughly enjoy hearing what you have to say even if I don't always have a chance to respond personally.
