Three Things

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where I share three things and hopefully you do too.

Let's start.

1. Today I will accompany the owner of Sandpiper Reef on a very important catering mission in the county. I can't wait. Although I am tempted to wear the crab hat on this noteworthy journey, common decorum sense dictates otherwise.  At least this time.

2. Later today I will meet up with my college roommate, Iris, and her family.  Twenty five years ago this May we graduated.  From college. It seems like only yesterday.

3. All my tomato plants are gone thanks to some killer, mutant, blood-sucking, Only in Mathews County creature the size of an anaconda, with horns, fangs, and a million legs--all of which were clutching nastily (it's a word) to my poor little helpless plants.  I swatted them all clear across the yard like softballs, but it's too late for my precious tomato plants.  Thankfully, my daughter has some tomatoes doing well in another part of the yard, and my mother has the Garden of Eden next door.  So we will not be without tomatoes this summer. Still, this will be the first time in four years there will be no tomatoes at my back stoop.

3b.  Did I just say stoop?

Now it's your turn to share three or more things.  If one of them includes a way to organically fight killer, mutant, blood-sucking caterpillars the size of anacondas, I'm all fangs ears.

Last bridge photo,  I promise.

1. Maybe cayenne pepper on the ground around the tomato plants? I'm told ants don't like cinnamon, so maybe that? Because I don't know what anaconda-sized caterpillars hate. I only know they like tomato sandwiches, without the bread and mayo.
2. When I want to comment on a blog whose comment box opens on a whole new page, I have to go back to my dashboard and open a whole 'nother new page with the blog on it so I can remember what it said.
3. I forgot to wash the parts of the new CPAP (sleep apnea) machine I'm trying out, so I'd better do that before I go to bed. I read somewhere that an alternative to CPAP machines might be to learn to play a didgeridoo. Apparently it strengthens the throat muscles, so they don't close and cause a breathing stoppage during the dead (no pun) of night.

1. We have been coming that way soooo much that we broke down and got an EZPass.

2. Headed back that way this evening.

3. I don't know why, but the thought of well water scares me a little.

1. Best "organic" solution is inspecting plants, pulling the buggers off and dumping them in a bucket of soapy water. You can also try organic Thuricide or BTK (not to be confused with the serial killer) BTK is a bacteria that is naturally occuring in the soil. Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki is the actual name of it. And this conducts my little lesson in organic control of hornworms. Not to be confused with horny worms which is a whole other can of worms.

2. This time next week I will have the van packed and ready to head south to Deltavile where I plan to find time for the beach, a 5K, parade and fireworks and a ball game on Saturday (Heritage Day) and some face time with friends if they're around.

3. One can never have too many pictures of the bridge over Milford Haven. Just like you can never watch it open and close too many times. It's just one of those relaxing things about down there.

4. I really really wish I could move there.

Bethie - Well water SHOULD scare you, at least around here. I don't drink the stuff. Ever.

3c. Not to be confused with "stool"

1. The tomatoes in my dad's garden have outgrown their cages. Not sure how much bigger they can get before they fall over. You are welcome to come and get some!

2. I put out a second hummingbird feeder yesterday. They are already swarming around it. I LOVE those little things!!!

3. I'm actually a big fan of well water:)

1. I think the crab hat is more than appropriate for you to wear to any event.

2. I have to see a picture of the creature that snatched your maters.

3. I'm contemplating staying in my jammies today.

1. I planted some "volunteer" tomatoes that sprouted on our former compost heap... some critter ate mine, PLUS the volunteer pumpkin and/or watermelon vines that were going out there too. Three mater plants that I rescued and planted in a box on the patio seem, as yet, untouched...

2. Not that it matters because I'm told by many a source that if the volunteer tomatoes sprouted from hybrid seeds, the plants won't yield fruit. But it's free science, so we'll see...

3. I guess I need to get some cages now that they're getting bigger.

1. Three of my favorite things: feeling the sand being carried from under my feet by a receding wave; the sparkle in Noah's eyes when a tree frog lands on his nose; watching fireflies dance on a warm summer night.

2. I walked out of work today without my wallet, my phone or my keys. Half way home I got a call from a coworker on the work phone (yeah, imagine me keeping up with two cells)who wondered how I managed to start my car. Miraculous appearance of the lost spare set...I didn't even notice.

3. When I was a kid my mom sometimes gave me a penny a fly when the flies were really bad...but I think squishing those tomater killers might be a little more pricey.
