Scenes from Queens Creek

All of these were taken at various points in time from the comfort of my back yard.

Today might be my favorite day of 2012 thus far, because as of this evening I will be on vacation/off work until Monday, July 16th! I know! Well over a week.

We're contemplating making the trek to Yorktown tomorrow evening to see the fireworks, since the Mathews fireworks won't happen until this weekend.

I gave up trying to understand why anyone would have 4th of July fireworks on any day other than July 4th, but I am sure there are good reasons.  Just not very obvious ones.

Anyway, this time of year always reminds me of the very best place in the world to watch fireworks, which was perched inside a boat near the mouth of the very creek in today's photos: Queens Creek.  Back in the 1970s and '80s, the Islander fireworks were legendary. I really miss those days.

But I'm not complaining.  Because I don't have to go back to work until July 16th!

Are you doing anything for July 4th?

Oh, I'm so glad for you! Are you going anywhere with the family?
As for me, I have no big plans. Just relaxing. Maybe going somewhere for fireworks. And yes, they should be on the 4th. Why anyone would have them any other time is beyond me.

Glorious photos!
So happy that you are on vacation! Wishing you wonderful weather and good times-
We might watch fireworks, we can set on the porch and see some of the ones put off by the local amusement park. The fireworks should be on the 4th but it will be fun to see them twice in one week!

Vacation... what I wouldn't give to be on vacation now- with electricity (these days I feel I need to stress that part to the Universe). Love the last couple of pics. We're expecting crappy weather tomorrow so I'm not sure what I'll be doing. Maybe nothing.

We had some fireworks last night I am guessing kids in the park .. and this morning as well .. practice makes perfect .. as for the actual Fourth, depending on the temps I will either spend the day indoors hiding from the heat or outdoors taking a walk with Toonman then hanging out indoors .. we led such exciting lives .. tho I am considering - depending on temps - a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to see what I can see .. have a wonderful and safe Fourth!

Wonderful photos! Especially the sunrise shots.

I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing vacation and get to do the fun things you want to do.

Unfortunately, I have to work tomorrow. We took a vote where I work on whether we wanted the 2nd, which was yesterday, the 4th, or Friday the 6th as our holiday. The majority voted for yesterday. It was nice having a 3 day weekend, but just didn't seem right. The 4th is supposed to be celebrated on the 4th! Next thing you know, they will be grouping it in with the other holidays in the "Monday Holiday Bill" and it won't be the same. Just sayin'.

We were at Dewey Beach over the 4th and enjoyed the fireworks on the beach... it was a nice two-block walk from our house to the beach and back - not nearly the trek you and your kiddos experienced in Yorktown! Alas, vacation is over and tomorrow we return to work. I will be living vicariously through you during your vacation.
