Wolf Trap Light

Friday evening a friend invited me out for a boat ride.

This is Wolf Trap Light.

Click here  and here for info on this interesting lighthouse.

Click here for Deltaville Jamie's excellent blog post about Wolf Trap.

Click here for one of my very silly write-ups from several years ago.  The last comment is from someone who actually lived in this structure.

In other news:

  • Paula the Garden Gnome went on her first field trip this weekend.  Stay tuned for photos from that adventure later this week. And what an adventure it was.
  • My son is feeling well enough to return to school for several hours a day this week.  He's still in some pain but doing much better.
  • Happy third day of fall.

My Dad was in the Coast Guard and stationed on Wolf Trap for couple of years in the early 60's. He loved that job. Thanks for the close up pic's. I have never been inside.
Glad your son is doing well and things are getting back to normal for your family!

Definitely happy fall to you all cbw.
Thinking of you all, and pleased to hear that your son is progressing enough to try out some hours of school. All the best.

My first thought was "I wrote a blog post about Wolf Trap Light?" Then I was thinking how I would so climb that ladder and check the place out. Thanks for the photos!

What a wonderful outing! Awesome pictures, too. As much as I would love to live on the water, I don't know if I would be able to live on a light.

Hooray for CBS getting to go to school. I'm sure he's glad as well.

Trinia, I had no idea your father was stationed here! Learn something new every day.

If anyone from Saturday night's adventure at Merroir is reading, I'll have pictures of Paula the Traveling Gnome up by Thursday, hopefully. (Yes, CBW is still talking about a garden gnome.)

------------

Happy Monday, everyone, thanks for reading/commenting.

Just came back to look at these photos again. It strikes me as interesting that this structure is (or was) painted, inside and out. It's just out in the water there, and it looks like the only way up inside is that ladder. Interesting!

I talked to my Dad. I was wrong. He was stationed on Wolf Trap from 1956-59. There were always 3 men on there at all times to rotate shifts to keep the light fueled. They did 24 days on and 6 days off. They would take a small skiff that hung from the side to get supplies from Huberts in New Point. He is a good cook now because of all the cooking they did on the lighthouse. He loved his time on their and has lots of great memories! I told Mom to be sure to show him your pic's so he could see what the inside looks like now.
