Snow. Still.

This marks Day One Thousand and Eleventy Two of not feeling well and it's too cold and my new car wasn't meant for snow and why is it only 56 degrees inside my house when the thermostat is set to 68 and the heat pump hasn't turned off for two weeks and how much will my electric bill be and how will I ever feel good enough to run again and how much work is piled up when I finally go back today and how many days until I can retire and will I make it that long?  All that and then some.

Sunday the temperatures finally broke and things started to thaw out but not enough to really make a difference.  At least not to me.  I still have too much snow on my deck and too much snow in my driveway and not enough energy to do anything about any of it.

Regardless, I will drag myself into work today and pretend to be enthusiastic and full of pep even if all I want to do is pull the covers over my head and sleep until April.

I hope all is well in your world.

Is it April yet?

Piankatank River

Here are a few glimpses of the Piankatank River

as seen from the end of Godfrey Bay Road near Hallieford.

It's a small beach, but it's open to the public.

It isn't hard to figure out where it begins and ends though.
The signs are bold and brazen.
The message is abundantly clear.

Another thing that's abundantly clear--to me, anyway--is how grateful I am for this, a long weekend courtesy of Monday's federal holiday.

Daughter now has the sickness Son recently recovered from. Thank goodness she has no basketball until next week.  I'm lethargic not feeling great, but that's not unusual for this time of year.  Hopefully there is a 40-degree, sunny day just waiting to spring forth somewhere in the near future, so I can get out and do some jogging, which always makes things better. I'd really love a 60-degree day but when 20 is the new normal, 40 starts to sound pretty darn good.

This sentence post has exceeded the allotted number of numbers and therefore must come to a swift end.

I hope your weekend is warm and wonderful.

Marsh

Here are pictures from the time of year known as Hibernation,
where all I want to do is nothing but sleep.

Directly on the heels of cold and snow,
for whatever reason, it was sixty degrees yesterday.

(Sixty degrees in February.)

I took advantage of the blip on the temperature gauge to run a few miles.

And for just a moment, I forgot about the urge to hibernate.

Haven Beach

These were taken last week from Haven Beach, which is the county beach closest to our infamously haunted Old House Woods. No ghosts were spotted this particular day.  Instead, all I saw--even as I struggled in the bitter cold to make my frozen fingers work long enough to press the shutter button-- was beautiful scenery in an otherwise nondescript day.

It's back to work for me today after a long arduous weekend.

I remain vigilant in my quest for worldwide support of Human Hibernation Until March. The essence of the movement has legs to stand on, I am convinced.  I've made a few informal queries, and most people agree. (Where most people equal a few random young people I polled this weekend.)

Hope your week is off to a good start.

Boat

This old lady sits quietly in what might be called the boat graveyard of J&M Marina in Deltaville.

There are plenty of fully functioning, floating boats at this marina,
but I happen to love this section the best.

And this boat in particular.

This bird was watching my every move.  She evidently likes the boat as much as I do.

The flurry of Thanksgiving is over, and now we're plunged head first into the frenzy of Christmas.  All this comes at the time of year when my energy is zapped, and my desire to do anything or go anywhere sinks to an all-time low.

Never mind.

Basketball officially starts this week with an away game tonight at Northumberland.  I will drive the hour to work in the dark, put in my day there, and race the I Don't Know How Many Miles after work to see the game, then drive the hour or so back home in the dark.  There is another away game on Wednesday and a home game Friday night.  Somewhere in between, I have to take Daughter to town (an hour away) to shop for a dress for the upcoming Holly Ball.  Son is frantically applying to colleges, and I must try to figure out when I am setting up the Monster Tree that, along with all the decorations, must be hauled from the depths of the cold, dark basement.

Anyway, it's going to be a very hectic month. I just want to sleep.

Hope your December is off to a better start.

Buy Boat

These buy boats were gathered at the Tides Inn as part of a festival of sorts that took place there this weekend.

Aside from going here Saturday afternoon, I didn't leave the house all weekend.

Sunday was way too cold, and all I wanted to do was hibernate until June 2014 sleep.

This week we shift gears into Thanksgiving-Christmas-NewYears-Don'tBlinkIt'sJanuary mode.

I'm not sure I'm ready, but that doesn't matter.  Ready or not, here it is.
