Tuesday Trio

On New Year's Eve I drove down to Mobjack and noticed this boat, which has seen better days.

Although some people might call this an eyesore, the broken down, barnacle-covered boat is very photogenic to me. I find it even more interesting juxtaposed against those highfalutin spiffy sailboats in the background.

Don't ask me where I pull words like spiffy from (and we won't even mention highfalutin since technically it's crossed out).  There's no acceptable answer, and furthermore it is quite disturbing how freely words like that flow forth, when I struggle to remember other more normal commonly used words.

Complete this sentence:  The sight of that abandoned boat makes me think of _______________.

My answer is it makes me think of myself, all washed up and unable to move a wooden skiff that sunk in our cove when I was a kid.  We could only see it at low tide, and sometimes I'd wade out hoping to rescue it by bailing it out.  That didn't work, though, and eventually the boat completely disintegrated and was swallowed up by creek mud. Just like me.  The End.

The sight of that abandoned boat makes me think of _______________.
Makes me think of how lonely it must be, looking across the water at the well-cared for highfalutin' boats.

Spiffy and highfalutin' are perfectly good words in my vocabulary...course, I live in West Virginia:))

I grew up in British Columbia, and I think spiffy and highfalutin' are perfectly good words, too.
The sight of that abandoned boat makes me think of my parents, because they're both gone, and sometimes I feel the way that boat looks.
But, sometimes, I think of my parents and I smile, because I had them for such a long time.

Yep, spiffy, hifalutin', all fine by me. In fact I think they're terrific! You can immediately see how exciting life is here at the moment!

The boat. Hard work. But yes, makes a great photo! Thanks CBW.

Damn, I just fixed that thing 3 weeks ago. Maybe that is why the check was no good!

The sight of that abandoned boat makes me think of all of the oppotunities lost while concentrating on what other people think is important.

My Aunt R___, since you were standing at the edge of her yard when you took that picture.

We used to get on the bus at the gate in her yard when I stayed with my cousin M (a few yards from where you were standing). We had to walk across Aunt R___'s yard and cross a bridge over the cove to get to M___'s house.

Almost the exact same vista you photographed (sans boat) was in a pictorial book about the lower bay published 30 or so years ago. You have a good eye!

Happy New Year!

It makes me think of aging. Which is a function of where my head is this week. But it's a really nice photo!

It makes me think of highfalutin boats that aren't nearly as charming!

Thank you all for your answers, I thoroughly enjoyed reading them.

AMN - I had no idea your family was associated with that area. I wasn't paying much attention to the homes before this little cove (other than the Myrtle Grove sign), but there is a huge old house (currently blue)with a gorgeous porch directly across the road from where I was standing. For some reason I was very drawn to it, as though I ought to know who lived there or as though I've spent time there. But for the life of me I can't remember ever setting foot inside. Strange. If you know anything about it, let me know.

Thanks to all of you for reading.

The sight of that abandoned boat makes me think of what fun it must have had in younger days.
