More From Williams Wharf

Here are some more shots from Williams Wharf.  Starting off broad, they narrow in focus with each picture.

(You likely would have figured all that out if I hadn't mentioned it. Sometimes I think all I do is state the obvious, especially at work.  However, you'd be surprised how many people wouldn't know the obvious if it bit them square between the eyes don't see the obvious and thank me when I point things out to them. Because I'm unable to discern who can see what, I always err on the side of Explanation Overkill.  Let's return to what was supposed to be a brief blog post, already choked out by Explanation Overkill  parenthetical nonsense.)

Sometimes when I come home from a photo-taking journey I wonder how it's possible to take so many pictures of the same place. A fifteen minute spree can produce hundreds of shots.

The answer lies in all the zooming.

(My poor, tired, addled brain, which only received 4 hours of sleep last night, is now playing Aretha Franklin's "Who's Zoomin' Who?" as background music.  What a great song. I might be sleep deprived, but I still know good music even if I'm the only one who hears it  when I hear it. Click here if you want to take a trip back to 1985.)

This one's my favorite of all, but I wouldn't like it as much without the background music from Aretha Franklin context of the photos above.

Have a great day.

p.s. The ants have returned, and it's hardly even March.  I'm preparing for heavy warfare and am reasonably confident I have just the arsenal to defend my house once and for all against this killer mutant Mathews brand of ants.  Stay tuned for details.

We're leaving for Europe next week and the ants have begun to arrive in our house. We've put out four ant traps already and will make sure there are many more after the dog gets delivered to friends who plan to spoil her rotten, and where she won't be tempted to find out what's in ant traps.
The theory is, the ants take the poison back to their nests and by the time we get home, there will be nary an ant in the place.
And, if you believe that...

mer - Where have you been? I've missed your excellent musical contributions to my silly words. Love Dave Matthews and that song. Thank you.

Kay-Get Terro brand if you have access to it, and if not they have a website terro.com. They sent me an arsenal of ant ammunition last year, and I have to use a multi-faceted approach. Liquid traps and spray indoors; huge, mutant-sized traps big enough to catch a bear outdoors; and something else (that escapes me) around the perimeter of the house. But I discovered quickly that the indoor ant traps alone would not do the job. Your European vacation sounds wonderful - can't wait to hear all about it.

Hope everyone has a great day. Thankfully I got more than four hours sleep last night, so today's already starting off better than yesterday.

least we not forget...Sade, Anita Baker, Roberta Flack, those were some of my favorite R&B singers from the 80's. And also the Queen of Soul Ms Aretha Franklin. Wow great song!! You have great taste in music!!

I am sleep deprived and I love that last shot. Funny I was thinking it reminded me of a giant ant wakling across the water. If you think I'm crazy, please see the first sentence of this comment. The ants have returned to my mom's house aka the commune. I will be waging war and taking perverse pleasure in killing them. Because killing ants is legal.

CBW- Do they make Terro for Man Pigs?

Angry Ants! It must be nearing spring? Hopefully wishing:)

I'd have to go with Mer on the Dave Mathews song. Can't say I've ever heard that Aretha Franklin song - before my time I guess. :)

Love the pictures of the wharf! Where exactly is that located?

Maria - I had almost every Sade cassette (yes, cassette) that was made and still listen to Diamond Life although I have the whole thing on CD. Roberta Flack was also huge, my favorites were her duets with Donny Hathaway. Donny's Best Of CD is **outstanding.** (Notice I don't talk about anything past the CD era, because I can't figure out the whole i-tunes thing, although my son considers me a work in progress.)

Deltavile Jamie - NO, it does not work on Man Pigs, regrettably! To date, nothing does.

Deborah - Your sentence is perfect. A honey bee - good! I thought they had gone by the wayside. We used to see them all the time around here when I was a kid, but not anymore. All we get these days are bumble bees and carpenter bees.

Daryl-Yep. I didn't think it was good by itself, though, context was needed.

Nate - If you drive through the courthouse and keep goin' like you're headed to Port Haywood, about midway there you make a right on Williams Wharf Road (Rte.614) and follow it to the end. I like to go there and use the nice, flat road to walk or jog on. (Christ Church, with a beautiful graveyard, is also on this road.) The photo ops afterwards are the icing on the cake. You can also launch canoes or kayaks there if you are so inclined.

The ants go marching one by one, hurrah hurrah. Now I can't get this song out of my head.

Very nice clips today. You did a nice job on the light and dark of the wharf.

Ok, I'll see if I can find it next time I am in town. Only question is, doesn't the law frown on driving through a courthouse? :)

Nate, Mathews is one of the few places where you are expected to drive to and even through the courthouse on a regular basis, especially if you expect to do any grocery shopping. Law enforcement doesn't like it when you drive through the courthouse too fast, though...
