Three Things

It's Thursday once again, and that means it's time to share three things.

1.  Last evening Chesapeake Bay Daughter asked if she could host her entire class for a party next weekend.  Of course she can.  Nothing makes me happier than for Daughter and/or Son to have friends over; I really do enjoy it.  Upon further reflection, however, I realized that would be the Friday before my very first and likely only 10K run in Richmond (an hour away), so Friday night was not good. Not wanting to disappoint, however, I agreed to that Saturday night.

1b.) To recap:  This 47-year-old (along with 40,000 others including an 80-year-old from Gwynn's Island) will struggle through a 10K at the crack of dawn on Saturday.  After that abuse, she will fight the throngs to locate her car, drive the hour home and host a party consisting of approximately 18 teenagers, which does include boys. Serenity now.

2.   My mother wrote a great post (complete with vintage 1970s photos) on Baby Sister.  Click here to read it.  She left out the part where I was a very caring, responsible babysitter with the exception of only a few unfortunate incidents.

3.  Speaking of my mother and Baby Sister, they and former Mathews/now Outer Banks resident Ann Marie, will also participate in next weekend's race.  Thanks to the magic of Facebook I've discovered several high school friends will be there too.  CB Mother will walk.  Baby Sis will run since doing a 10K is like breathing air to her.  Ann Marie and I, on the other hand, are new to all this (although AM recently completed an 8K).  We will be grateful to finish (a) alive; (b) without walking; (c) with crab hats intact. I have yet to run a race with Ann Marie that we were not wearing crab hats.  Any other way just wouldn't be civilized.

3b.  We seriously contemplated having shirts made that said, "We put the FUN in dysfunctional."  That is my new favorite slogan and actually would make a great title to a book.

OK, there you have it.  Still talking about the 10K and all the associated fears about finishing alive without walking.

Now it's your turn to share three (more or less) things.

1. I thought the shirts were going to read, "Keep the Governor out of my Underpants." (Bob, the transvaginal governor)

2. Birds are sure singing a lot.

3. I have not trained for this disaster and will probably break down like a feeble horse. Hope there's an after party.

1. I don't run because when I die I want it to be because I was sick. Though I've been using the elliptical at the gym an haven't died yet. Go figure.

2. transvaginal is my new favorite word. I was going to add something else about the governor and my underpants, but it was inappropriate and I'll refrain.

3. I can't think of a third thing because I'm still stuck on what I was going to say on thing number 2.

Loved your mom's last blog post, with the photos of the three of you. Hard to get three young girls all smiling at once!
I really admire all this marathon running. I was a sprinter when I was young, but couldn't hold up over the long haul because of chronic bronchial issues.
Wishing you all the best.

1. Good luck on your first 10K race, you'll probably be tired enough afterwards that you won't even notice all the kids staying at your house.
2. Bella, the Great Dane puppy I mentioned a week or two ago, is doing great. She's gained 8 lbs. already and is now full of energy and biting and chewing on everything/everyone with her mouth full of baby teeth.
3. My boss just informed me that I would not be getting a performance award, even though I got the highest evaluation possible and everyone else did get an award, even with lower evaluations because he feels I already make enough money! They are trying to get me to quit because I am older than the rest of them and don't fit their image. The joke's on them, the less money they give me the longer I will have to work!!

That's a good saying.

And I'm wishing you luck.

And I know you can do it.

Racers, I hope you do have an after party--it will be well-earned...I am in awe. Everyone be careful and pace yourselves so party does not become a "hereafter" party.
Wild on Waverly--your t shirt idea is genius.
Windsmurf, I am planning some sort of plaque for you to present to your boss on the far off, but glorious, day you retire.. a Heartless BossCreep Dufus Award.
