This site is about my life growing up and growing older in Mathews County, a rural, water-bound community on the way to nowhere in particular.

Queens Creek
Here are some recent shots of Queens Creek and the many moods of the sky.
These were taken from my back yard.
If I had a nickel for every hour I've spent swimming in, skiing on, wading in, floating on, or gazing at this creek, I'd never have to work again.
The one above is a zoomed-in shot of the mouth of the creek. Gwynn's Island is that tree line off in the distance; Cow Point is on the left side of the creek, near where those channel markers stand in the water. I spent many, many happy summers at Cow Point and am overjoyed that my daughter and son love spending time there too.
Seeing them paddle up the creek in that direction is very comforting to me. All is right with the world somehow.
Click here for a 2008 blog post describing one of my favorite childhood memories of Cow Point.
Dear Chesapeake Bay Children, Although I am glad you enjoy Cow Point, please do not ever camp there. First of all, it's against the law without permission. Second--and perhaps most importantly-- there's no ice cream. Third, the mosquitoes are bigger than buzzards. Fourth, just trust me on this.
Love you!

May your weekend be filled with smooth waters, exciting adventures and expressive skies.

In defense to the Lady who lives on Waverly Place...I got your back momma...things were different back then, I remember my mom telling us when she went shopping at Sears she would let us kids go to the toy dept to play?? I couldn't imagine?
How lucky is the owner of the private beach?? When I grow up I want that.
Thanks for the photos, it's early and already my blood pressure and anxiety are up and the pics dropped them a notch. The only thing better than Queens Creek is Sturgeon Creek... but it has a house in it so maybe it should be second. Headed south today...
Beautiful shots of the creek. I need to bring my canoe over! Then we can paddle up the creek together..just sayin'

NO ICE CREAM! Peeesh, you won't see me there that's for sure. Hump, no ice cream...crazy people....mumble, mumble....
We are blessed to have our home on the banks of such a lovely little body of water with its nature relatively unbothered.
I did my Mother's Day Blog so check me out.
Love to all.
I loved this. Happy Mother's Day, my friend.
