Three Thing Thursday

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where I share three things (usually random, but today related) and you share three or more things, anything at all, whatever you want.

On your mark. S - e - t? GO!

1. Above is a shot of the creek from my parents' yard; I took it a few weeks ago. If I were taking this same picture today, you'd see no grass (aka "riparian buffer" per Anonymous Mathews Native) but you would see an excavator, a mountain of rocks, and a pile of dirt. They're putting in riprap.

2 What is riprap, you say? Here's the Wikipedia splanation: (By the way, just in case you didn't know, "splanation" is derived from the word "splain" which was invented by Ricky Ricardo/Desi Arnaz....)

Riprap — rubble, shot rock or rock armour — is rock or other material used to armor shorelines, stream beds, bridge abutments, pilings and other shoreline structures against scour, water or ice erosion.

It is made from a variety of rock types, commonly granite, limestone or occasionally concrete rubble from building and paving demolition. It is used to protect coastlines and structures from erosion by the sea, rivers, or streams. It is used on any waterways or water containment where there is potential for water erosion

3. There's something very silly about the term riprap. It's just one of those words for which you could never have any respect, in spite of the fact that riprap represents something strong, a defense which prevents one's land from cascading into the sea during the nor'easters, tropical storms, and hurricanes which come through here on a weekly regular basis. If you just say "riprap" three times in a row, quickly, you'll understand why I don't need to splain how silly it is.

If I were allowed to keep going, the next stop on the Chesapeake Bay Woman Train of Out-of-Control Thought would be bric-a-brac and Tic Tacs. Don't get me started on knick-knacks and paddy whacks.

As much as I'd love to keep going on this topic, I will stop now.

(You're very welcome.)

Tell me three (or more) things. Anything at all, whatever you want. The sillier the better.

I'm bound and determined to work "riprap" into a sentence today!

Ok, here we go.

1.) I seem to have a very popular thing going over on my Facebook page where I talk to myself about dumbass things like vampires and the merits of the newFANGled glittery-good-guy ones, or the evil yet dashing vampires of yore.

2.) My 40-year-old cleavage came in handy late yesterday after being pulled over. But the thing is, I was pulled over for violating a noise ordinance that doesn't even exist. In the end, the officer got a good look at my aging cleavage and I didn't get cited for disturbing the peace by driving around with my stereo too loud.

3.)I still don't know if we're expecting another inmate in 9 months, here at the asylum and I kinda would like to avoid finding out. Yes, I am surfing the river of denial right now! BIG TIME.

4.) If number 3 ends up being confirmed (Monday. I'm going in for a blood HCG along with my weekly blood draw I have to have), I will be making an appointment, ASAP to personally rip the nipples off of my OBGYN, who performed my tubal when Gaby was born, and then from there I am going to Home Depot to purchase a "DIY Vasectomy" kit for Gareth. And if Home Depot doesn't have one in stock, I'll improvise.

1. I just got back from Toowoomba, dust storms and grand kids, and had to go shopping. I looked at the clock in the car and it was 2.01pm

2. I thought of cbw. Who was posting her post at 12.01am. (the same time). Very weird!

3. I hope to have a game of tennis later...hooray! Hope the dust has finally settled.

This week I am (and will be)

1) Packing boxes in a hot, dusty, dark flat;
2) Transporting boxes north;
3) Unpacking boxes in a soon to become very overcrowded cottage;
4) Saving the "hurray" for a couple of weeks' time, when all this is behind me.

1. I don't even like oysters, but would love to be involved in any frivolity surrounding the word "Fest". Wah.

2. I'm tired from the daily bitch slaps life throws my way after being blissed out at a yoga retreat all weekend. There should be a gentler re-entry program.

3. Conversely, I am thrilled to be in my second week of volunteering at the local Health Unit's 'Baby Days'. So looking forward to head-smelling and rocking. All that potential wrapped up in such small bundles!

4. Thankful for the CBP's earworm - riprap, riprap, riprap. Love it!!

1. I got home yesterday to find a bunch of stink bugs congregating on the outside of our window screens, dying to get in. I also discovered a few of their heartier bretheren who'd exploited a breach and gained access to the inner sanctum. You may have fiddler crabs, but I? I have stinkbugs.

2. I sent my kid to school today even though he was complaining of feeling "not well" and I don't think he was bluffing. I sent him Tuesday and he had puked within 30 minutes of the beginning of school. So far, no SOS calls from the dreaded number I recognize instantly on caller ID.

3. Happy National Punctuation Day! Go celebrate by taking a nap. (See my blog today for the rest of the suggestions for observing this fine, fine day.)

Oh boy, we need some pictures of thr riprap. I'm sure this is impeding the access the geese have to your mom's lawn for their daily feedings. And Gustaf? Are you telling me he is ok with this?

Ok, three things....

1. It's only 62 degrees out today, and Grandma J is ticked pink.

2. Thoughts of moving to the desert south west are swarming around my head....

3. Surprisingly, bourbon chicken goes great with beef flavored Rice a Roni.

we wont talk about re-injuring our BAD knee
