Running

At Bethel Beach recently these little guys were hanging out, to the extent that these birds ever really hang out or sit still.

They love to scurry, running and zigzagging this way and that to avoid the incoming waves.

They're always in a hurry.

Speaking of running but not in a hurry, this particular day I had just run four miles for the first time in my life. Although I used to run a lot in high school, I was a sprinter (like these little birds)  as opposed to a distance runner.

For some reason this day I wanted to try going farther than my usual two or three miles. So I parked the car at Bethel and ran two miles in the other direction, telling myself I could always walk back to the car if necessary.

It wasn't necessary.

And I felt so good afterwards that I did it again two days later.  And that felt so good I'm hoping to go again today.

I may have found a cure for the Winter Blahs.

At least until my back or knees give out on me.

But so far, so good.

If you're feeling the Winter Blahs and don't normally exercise, I encourage you to bundle up and just go for a walk.  Movement in and of itself does wonders for you mentally as well as physically.

Just ask these little birds.

I hope you don't seize up, she said sympathetically.
LOL
I was a sprinter, too, and never tried distance running even when I was dating a marathoner (in another lifetime). But oh, I could run like the wind over a short stretch. The Good Old Days.
I love your little birds.

The past couple of weekends I've been hiking (except this weekend because I was busy schlepping my crap from one house to another- though I did manage to go bowling). I'm hoping I manage to keep at it all winter.

Wait. So which half marathon are we gonna do next? I say NIKE in San Fran. A fireman will give us a Tiffany necklace at the finish;)

Exercise today was back and forth to the farm waiting for the hose to unfreeze so I could water all the animals...Noah's zoo. You're amazing!

Good for you on your running. I need to find some type of exercise. I used to be in pretty good shape, but now I get winded walking to my mailbox and back(700ft x 2)!

I always liked tose little birds.

that's exactly how you increase your distance just like that. I DON'T do it but I learned that when I trained for a marathon.
No I didn't run one. 6 miles was my limit.

Hmmmmm. I hear ya but it sounds like a lot of work. Still, I know I need to do SOMETHING other than the incidental walking I do during my commute...
