The Tree

Once upon a time back in 2009, Chesapeake Bay Woman's son and daughter were young enough that they didn't mind following their mother on her crazy photographic adventures, and they were as mesmerized as she by the beach called Aaron's.

At that exact same time, there was a tree that lived (even though it was dead--CBW is infamous for playing with and ignoring the rules of reality) on a perfect point of pristine sand very near a patch of old pilings.

Over the years the tree became a symbol of strength.

No matter how strong the storm winds blew,

no matter how much the sand around it shifted,

the tree

still

stood.

Then one day, with no warning whatsoever,

the pilings still stood.

But the tree had finally fallen.

The End.

Click here and here  (in the second link, first picture, the tree is seen way off in the distance)
for more photos of this much-loved tree that finally succumbed and surrendered.

Thank you for the tree tribute...it will evolve to become graceful driftwood, or maybe carried out by the tides to provide underwater homes for ocean life. Have a great week.

very sad...I feel your pain for the changing environment.

It is nice to be so close to the land that a tree is missed!

Good photos!

Aw. That makes me sad. They say the Bay coastline is changing, slowly but surely...

I was sad to see the tree down, too. It was a shock, actually--I thought she'd always be there. I wish she could tell her stories; the things she's seen. What she thought of the crazy chicks who relentlessly photographed her. :) And who photographed her but never seemed to be there at the same time!

Was sorry to be the bearer of sad news but it was a shock to see her that way and wanted you to have a heads up.

Feel free to share your photos on the Beaches of Mathews County Facebook page, if you'd like:
