Three Things

It's time once again for Three Thing Thursday, where you're encouraged to share three (or more) things, and I share three things, on any topic at all.

Here we go.

1. Although it's been comin' on for about two weeks now, the leaves are starting to turn and I can no longer deny it. Although I'm not vehemently opposed to fall, summer has always been my favorite. Perhaps if fall and winter didn't equate to utter and complete despair darkness (i.e. leave for work in the dark, drive to work in the dark, work in the dark return home in the dark and want to fall face first into bed and sleep until spring), I'd have a better attitude. Because I can and do appreciate the cooler temperatures, but the lack of daylight? No can do.

2. I also dread the disappearance of all the green. In the field above, which is in Cardinal, you can see the fall-like color creeping into that grass. Far below, that red leaf nestled in the most perfect patch of sunlight ever is further indication that the trees are slowly letting go of their summer finest. Fall colors are pretty, yes, but I much prefer the vibrant life green of summer.

3. This evening Chesapeake Bay Daughter has her first soccer game (away, at Chesapeake Academy over in Irvington.) This will be her first game without her older brother, who is now at a different school. However, she'll be on offense with two boys she's played soccer with since preschool. They call themselves the Triangle of Awesomeness. (Clearly there's no need for concern in the confidence department.)

Actually, they really are an incredible trio on offense. Not only are they great athletes but they've also played together for so long they communicate like bats, with sonar or something. They have this secret, unspoken language and it's incredible to watch them play. I cannot wait.

(Dear Chesapeake Academy Faculty and Parents, I apologize in advance for all the hollering and screaming I will be doing from the sidelines. If I could help it I would, but I can't, so I won't. Thanks for understanding.)

Now it's your turn. Please tell us something about fall, about soccer, about hollering on the sidelines or better yet about something completely unrelated. Just tell us something.

I love fall! It's my favorite time of year! Fall is like my BFF (or whatever the young whipper snappers say these days)

P.S. Related to the book project, I saw on CNN a neat way to take pictures, they have a then & now series about New Orleans/Katrina

ok lets go..
1. That photo of a green field you have up there.. well let me just tell you about the house in the field. THAT house is THE house that got me back into photography. Yup.. sure is. Go ahead ask me why! (keep in mind while asking that I do not know the answer to that but something happened and it did)

2. The spot are coming in which means fish fry.. how much do you dislike fall NOW?

3. I am scratching the idea of pot luck and making it a fish fry here.. next week. I can pull it off but we may need to switch our regularly scheduled Thursday Therapy to Fish Fry Friday.

wb cobedi... what Audrey's cat can not accept the boundaries of.

1. That leaf is beautiful.
2. Have you ever considered investing in a light lamp? That way, you could get your much-needed daily dose of sunlight, say during blogging time?
3. It's chilly here this morning and my husband has all the windows open with the cool air streaming in. I actually got goosebumps and am wearing a sweater. Bring it on!!

Kate-I need all the help I can get with the book project, esp. with regards to acquiring and scanning old photos/prints/postcards. Help! I"ll be focusing on that today and tomorrow... and the rest of my life. I'll check out the link - thanks.

AM-The restaurant is finally open for business? SIGN ME UP FOR THE FISH FRY. I'll bring whatever you need, like some of your hush puppies, some of your deviled eggs, some of your succotash. Is there anything else I --I mean you-- need?

CG-Good idea with the sunlamp. I definitely need something, not sure how many more dark winters I can endure. Gorgeous here, too, this morning.

Your leaf is perfect!
1. We went down to the river at midnight to watch a WWII ship pass by. It only had its running lights on. duh..but there was a crowd to see the ship..does that make it double duh?
2. The leaves are turning and starting to fall here too. But there is still almost a week of Summer left..I feel like shouting to the trees - it's too early!
3. A fish fry will be wonderful. What time?

1. I can guarantee that I am louder and more vocal at games than you are CBW. One time I was at a basketball game where I was cheering on the team (always in a positive way) and Bridget was keeping theclock with this guy who said, "that woman is loud" Bridget said "Yea, she's my mom"... When my sister is with me, it's even worse.

2. Headed to Mothman Festival today. Learned that not only will the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine be there but the "Turtle Guy" who will demonstrate how he handles 40 lb snapping turtles WITH HIS BARE HANDS. There will be many many photos because I don't think anyone will believe the freakishness of this gathering unless I photograph it.

3. I'm really excited about the Mystery Machine

4. When I started commenting I notice the "WV is.." at the end of everyone's post. I took WV to mean west virginia. I just figured out it's word verification.

WV is durea- what happens when you drink the water in South America

deborah-Double Duh could be the name of my next book, with a special focus on my personal life....But anyway I wouldn't call going to the river at midnight to see (or try to see) a ship double duh. I'd call that an adventure.

Jamie-I am so jealous that I'm missing the Mothman Festival AND the mystery machine. If Fred is outside the mystery machine, please be sure to get him on film too. Tell Shaggy he was always my favorite.

You're not the first one to wonder about the word verification thing, but once you start playing the game you're hooked. In fact, an entire separate daily blog could be created, tossing out made-up words that people could use in sentences. If I didn't have two or three other irons in the fire right now, I'd start it.

Enjoy the Mothman Festival, and be sure to provide up-to-the-minute reports via Facebook for those of us with no life.

3. We have a bunch of Cajuns coming over for supper Sunday night. So much blog fodder, so little time...

I love fall, I love the cooler temps, but I too do not love the lack of sunlight .. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark too .. FEH.

I am excited my pal Marilynn is flying up from Nashville tomorrow to spend the weekend ... she was going to stay with me but the cats and their ringworm changed that so she's staying where you'all were going to stay had that nasty snow not fallen and kept the trains from running .. where was Mussolini when we needed him?

GO ChesapeakeBay Girl and her awesome team mates

1. I love fall too! Fires in the fireplace, big pots of chili and chowder on the stove, concealing my extra pounds under big bulky sweaters and my freakish toes in boots. All things I look forward to.

2. When we bought our house on the wooded lot in JUNE we gave no thought to the TONS of leaves that fall and must be cleaned and raked and removed over the coming 8 weeks or so.

3. Did someone say chowder? I really could go for some clam chowder about now.

1. It is nice to have the cooler temps here - only 90 instead of 100!

2. I am still swimming every day while it is too cold to swim in Ohio!

3. Fall is a wonderful time full of pumpkins, apple cider, fish fries (yum!), and crisp fall days!

MPM-I need to seriously consider getting one of those lights.

BHE-Not wearing the crab hat to this one. Don't need to add any more to the undue behavior, plus over on that side of the river they don't have as much of a sense of humor, generally speaking. I"ll save the crab hat for a home game...or Aylett Country Day School, where I wore it for the first time meeting you.

Daryl - sounds like a great weekend on tap.

far-Once again your selections match my mood. Hopefully I won't be quite as loud as Rodney Dangerfield, but I can't make any promises...

Meg-When I lived in falls Church, a stone's throw from West Falls Church metro, there was one huge, huge tree in the yard and it blanketed the entire yard in leaves, it felt like a foot deep. Around here we don't do anything to the leaves - just let the ground absorb them. Some might call it laziness, I just call it composting...

Trisha-Great job keeping up with the swimming. You're lucky you have a place to go. Around here unless you have your own pool you have to drive half an hour to the next county over and pay money to use the indoor pool. Mathews is really long overdue for a public pool in my opinion.

Getting ready for the big game. Cannot wait.

Luckily, more than half of our property is like natural woodsy, so we just rake our leaves right into the "front yard" and allow nature to do her work. But we do have to get 'em off the roof, the driveway, out of the gutters, the front walk, the patio, and what little mowable "lawn" we have.
