Three Thing Thursday

This is yet another shot I took down Freeport way a couple of weeks ago on my way home from West Point. The house is on the left as you drive down to the landing, just before the bend to the right. As with all things old, the structure's history, its stories, its good times, its bad times scream out to be told. But unless somebody tells me, I'm left to my own devices to fill in the blanks. This outcome is frightening less than desirable, so if anyone knows anything about this place, please speak up.

The simplicity of the scene coupled with the complexity of that house and its Unknowns really speak to me
.

Today has been a Marathon Day, and here it is 9:30 p.m. (Wednesday night), and I have nothing prepared for today's post (Thursday). Considering I already turned into a pumpkin several decades hours ago, there is no use trying to whip up something artificially, so instead I've invented something called Three Thing Thursday.

(Hello, my name is Chesapeake Bay Woman, and if you're not careful sometimes I will contradict myself and not even realize it, as in "no use trying to whip up something artificial" and "I've invented Three Thing Thursday." For example.)

I'll tell you three things and hope you'll tell me three things--which can be anything at all.

Ready? Begin
.

1. Today while sitting in my office at work, I realized that if I could define Heaven it would be a place that included (among many, many other things) a person's ability to eat infinite numbers of bite-size Almond Joys and/or Mounds with no fear of repercussion, no expanding waistlines, and no clogged arteries because surely the antioxidants in the chocolate and all the "good fat" in Nature's coconut have beneficial--if not heavenly--qualities. However, the other part of me says that if I could do that without restraint or consequence, the pleasure would grow old. So it's back to the drawing board on that one.

2. Chesapeake Bay Daughter had a soccer game this evening and scored 3 goals (out of the team's 5 or 6, we can't quite settle that dispute). Oh, how I love to watch that girl play sports, it's one of the indisputable definitions of CBW's Heaven.

3. The Chesapeake Bay Children made me proud by discussing their Earth Day activities with me and insisting that we shut down all lights at exactly 9:00 p.m. If not for them, I'd have been completely unaware because I live under a rock and don't get out much don't always have time to listen to the news or current events.

Now, it's your turn. Three things, anything.

Have a fantastic Thursday.

1. I check for, and read your blog almost every night before going to bed...because you always set your post to "go off" at midnight EDT.

2. I had a natural lunch in honor of earth day. And I was accused of eating a piece of pie

3. I went to a baseball game for A-Ron....again tonight. They won...again tonight.

1. When I burp I taste chipotle tri-tip. Thank GAHHHHH I had chipotle tri-tip for dinner, or I'd be worried. Also, I lied about the burping.

2. I had no lunch (no, scratch that, I ate my small lunch WAY early) but my boss promised to buy me lunch today and I didn't really feel like it. 4:00 rolled around at the B-to-B trade show we were working and the bar opened and he bought me TWO red wines. Skipping lunch is GOOD.

3. Earth what?

1. I am sorry I don`t visit your blog more often. You always make me laugh. I like you so much! But it`s because my stupid computer won`t obey me and put your blog site on my side line. It won`t! And so I must stumble around blindly at other blogs to find you there!
That was already more than one thing, was it?

2. It rained a bit last night, and now the sun is shining again. Perfect for our lawn and bush bulbs and my garden. Thank you, dear weather!

3. We are getting guests into our guest apartment on Saturday (you can see it at www.fewo.kaiserbad.de), and so now I have to get it all ready, including fresh fruits in a bowl! They`ll like it here!

I know I am only supposed to write three things, but I`ll smuggle in another question: What IS the story of that old pretty house? Is there no heir? I would like to move in there!

1. Windmills on mountaintops and spread across the prairies, sunlight and solar panels on rooftops, bicycles and walking shoes, running shoes and running for a cause - these are all beautiful.

2. Dreams are free, motivating and should be enjoyed by the young and the old alike.

3. A wonderful day to all that read this blog!

1. I also check in daily at station cbw. I enjoy my daily dose of humor!

2. We have been eating bagels with cream cheese for lunch...you guys don't know how lucky you are for having those things.

3.My little sis is still asleep, whereas I was asleep before the coffee hour last night.

1. I get paralyzed with indecision when presented with a topic so broad.
2. I just finished a bowl of Cap'n Crunch. Breafast of Champions, I don't care what Wheaties says.
3. I am late for work. Gotta go confront the loud talkers on Metro for the last time this week.

Ok, here is my contribution:

1. I am not supposed to, but I read your post every day at work. Thank God the firewall doesn't block blogspot yet.

2. My grass (or should I say weeds, because if it weren't for the Mathews County weeds I'd have no lawn at all) is so high already that I am panicking about how I'm going to get it cut if it doesn't stop raining!!! Aren't we getting close to 40 days and nights of rain yet?

3. I have become addicted to this blog and facebook. It's a sad life I tell you! Is there a self help group for this?

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

!. I didn't eat anything for Earth Day. Because I'm so conscientious and because I had a stomach virus.

2. My dog is the best nurse ever.

3. Is mmm really that nice in person?

1. My cat has always been good about bringing us "presents". The past two mornings, I have walked out on the porch to discover a small decapitated critter and innards. I'm detecting a gruesome pattern. TMI?

2. In honor of Earth Day, we took our wine outside and admired the three new burn barrels that our neighbor brought over Tuesday night. Those puppies should last us 3-5 years! Don't tell Busy Bee Suz...

3. Ever since I heard that it was going to be sunny & 85 degrees Saturday, I have been unable to focus on anything except making it to Saturday.

Hey, I love reading your remarks, I just might make this a standing Thursday Thing.

GJ: Thank you, and I'm still jealous of all the baseball you get to see in person.

Foolery: Chipotle anything is good, but not for anyone downwind of the burps that you lied about. Two glasses of wine is better than any amount of food any day of the week.

Angela - Always good to hear from you. I'm the one who should apologize because I don't make it to your blog nearly enough. Your guest apartment sounds wonderful. There is most definitely a story to all the old buildings down this particular road, I just don't know any of them. My mother and MY GREAT AUNT AND UNCLE WHO READ THIS BLOG MIGHT but they never comment. They could send me an e-mail though and then I could post it ....the question Great Aunt is what besides the steamboat landing was down at Freeport many moons ago?

MMM- I do believe you're building up to a blog of your own. This is how I got started, you know, leaving delightful (debatable, that) comments on other people's until finally they coerced me into starting one. However, in the meantime, I welcome your wonderful commentary and stories, which reminds me I might have a few more of yours that need posting. Note to self: don't forget to post MMM's story(ies).

Annie - If you're eating a NY bagel, then you're right, there's nothing like it. However, here in Mathews, there's no such thing as a bagel shop and we are stuck with Thomas's or the frozen ones, which hardly compare. Eat 'em while you can. (Y'all drink coffee at night?)

Meg- Captain Crunch with crunchberries was my favorite. Crunchberries are a fruit, no? They are native to the state of High Fructose Corn Syrup, and they're absolutely delicious.

MsSeabreeze - So glad you read and love hearing from you, my pinto driving friend. Facebook is great except I can't access it often due to my computer not liking it. Stupid computer. My lawn looks similar to yours, I am sure. John Deere and I will be spending lots of quality time together here shortly. Can you pay a teenager to do that yard work for you? ARe you interested in some geese? They keep the grass down but it's replaced with a slippery substance that is less than desireable...

MPM - Hope you are feeling better. MMM and his whole family are even nicer in person. You'll get to meet them at Blog Fest.

BHE - Will the pool be open on Saturday? Do the cats go anywhere near the pool? Would hate to do a cannonball and land on a decapitated critter.

No (paying) work for me today (although plenty of non-paying and non-rewarding work), and I am ecstatic. Happy Thursday.

1. I, too, read your blog every day (and love it) and think about commenting but chicken out, except for today. bawk bawk
2. After a food-allergy test consisting of multiple needle pricks up and down my arm, I'm apparently allergic to milk, wheat, and yeast. That cuts out about 99% of my usual diet, but the allergist suggested that I abstain from these foods for 1 month. For milk, nothing is a good substitute, but I bought some goat's milk yesterday and found that I can't drink it plain (too weird tasting) but can have it with very sweet cereal, as the milk takes on the sweetness. But I've found that I'm having a strange urge to eat garbage lately...
3. My 13-year-old son will most likely grow taller than me in the coming month. I'm 5'9", and he's almost there. There's something melancholy about it. Little boy is quickly leaving, being replaced by this new tall, cranky thing. Oh joy.

CBW rules.

1) No blog of my own - I'm not stu... I mean dedicated enough.

2) I know when someone is asking me to leave.

3) I'm not leaving.

Kaffy - Sorry to hear about your food allergies. Baby Sis has some similar issues and is all gluten-free. What did the allergist say about raw chicken, anything? I hear tell that's pretty tasty, especially when eaten at Clydes of Alexandria. You are not alone with the teenager thing. I have no words of wisdom other than wine, which I understand contains no dairy, wheat or yeast.

MMM - Hopefully you didn't misinterpret what I was saying, although that is easy to do...in plainer language: You write very well, therefore you should have a blog, BUT selfishly I am very glad you visit here and contribute since I do NOT write well and only ramble free-form/crazy style. Any time you want, just send more stories/writing and thanks for keeping the comments section entertaining and thought-provoking.

Anonymous Mathews Native, who has not commented but hopefully will read this: Speaking of guest posts, how about writing up that cow story relating to Aaron's Beach? There's a free Blog Fest ticket in it for you and your family! (Let's not worry about the fact that there is no such thing as a ticket for Blog Fest, it's the thought that counts.)

1. My pants are too tight in the waist. I wonder why.
2. Tho I should, I don't want to have to work to make it littler.
3. Where's MPM? I need a glass of Chardonnay.

Chesapeake Bay Woman said...

TSAnnie - IF you walk briskly to that wine, you'll no doubt burn off extra calories. MPM is on line, because I'm showing her lodging options for Blog Fest. I think y'all need to rent a cottage - more cost effective and more comfortable. She's perusing the options right now as we speak....

Since we're passing out compliments, I should say that to maintain a blog as well as you do would be too much work for me. Dropping in (and out) at one's leisure is too easy to give up.

Chesapeake Bay Woman said...

MMM-The secret to maintaining a blog is surprisingly simple: neglect all other areas of your life up to and including, and in fact especially, domestic duties.

Off to soccer.

foolery said...

You make it look easy, CBW. I don't say it enough (or, maybe, EVER) but I am in awe of the apparent ease with which you turn out a new story, photo, historical fact, and so forth, EVERY DURNED DAY! And they are consistently FUNNY! And they MAKE SENSE!

You must have sold your soul, or you are really four different people.

Who have each sold their souls.

And may I put in a vote of approval for MMM and AMN to either contribute more stories or to start their own blogs? Two thumbs up. : )

Ditto what Foolery said. Snaps & claps.

Just so we are clear, Crunchberries are a FROOT, not a FRUIT. Got it? Good.
