Silent Sunday

This is a sister to Thursday's photo. The swiftness with which the sky changes at sunset (and sunrise for that matter) never ceases to amaze me.

I have much to talk about and no time to write at the moment. Some of the things planned for upcoming posts include Blog Fest 2010 (July 15-18); a quaint little waterfront trailer for sale; the tale of a wonderful gathering of high school friends; and an update on our neighborhood gathering yesterday that may or may not have included Elvis parachuting in.

There is never--ever--a dull moment in Mathews.

Your photos are spectacular. I really think you should reconsider and work on the calendar idea...or something.

Great photo we are so lucky CBW we get to see this often! Yesterday I helped some of my 505 buddy's clean 4 bushels of crabs for a party. THis got me thinking.(Last 2 brain cells started blinking)There are several ways to clean and steam crabs. You have the traditional way, rinse them off and throw them in the kettle (If you don't do anything else you must rinse the old bait and jellyfish off of them , if you don't it well taint the taste) and steam (steamer at full boil when you put the crabs on) for 35 minutes give or take afew minutes depending on you steamer. A true test to see if they are cooked to perfection is to crack a claw and see if the meat comes out in one piece. If the meat is runny it is under cooked if it is mealy it is over cooked. Now back to the different ways to serve crabs. As I said the easiest way is to wash them off cull the dead ones out and steam. But we are spoiled in Mathews most of use "clean" our crabs,. this is done by pulling the top shell and apron off removing the face and dead man (gills) with a knife and hosing out the inerts. This leaves meat and shell only (boy we are spoiled)! Now some people like to leave the orange and yellow stuff or fat as we call it, they say it gives it a better taste, judgement call at best. If you chose to clean them keep them as cold as possible this way they are slow moving and won't pinch the tar out of you (well not as much if you have clean crabs before you no you are going to get pinched no matter how many pairs of gloves you have on!!). If you chose to clean them you will find that you can get more in your kettle, less time to steam them (about 20 minutes) and less mess to clean up . How do you like you crabs? later I will get into the seasonings we use each of the 505 member has there own recipes for crab seasoning, some are good some not so, as I like to think each to his or her own! have a great Sunday and try an catch a sunset this week. PG-Thank you! If I ever had time to focus on anything, a calendar or something that would potentially earn some money is high on the list. I'm not sure how profitable it would be though, but definitely would consider doing one.

MM-This may require a revoking of my Mathews County citizenship card, but I don't eat our local crabs because once I got sick off them at a seafood buffet. I will eat the fake krab (which is really fish), but can't stomach the real ones. (King crab is another story, however.) However, you are giving me an idea - maybe we should have some crabs at blog fest. Big Hair and Noe Noe are talking about a shrimp boil that first night. WE could also toss in some steamed crabs and have a seafood feast.

Steaming is the only way to cook crab, and with lots of Old Bay. And beer/wine coolers/something alcoholic

ATTENTION BLOGGERS:

CBW has instructed me to inform you that due to last evening's severe electrical storm, she has a fried modem. Please stay calm, as we work our way through these technical difficulties. Thank you for your patience.

Mathews Mark, please tell CBW hello and hugs and kisses from Foolery, and that I think the fried modem might have been better if she had steamed it. It's all a matter of personal taste, however.
