Yesterday

A very, very small part of my yesterday--easily one of the most eventful days in recent memory--was spent driving by this gorgeous display of flowers, which is right across from Mathews High School. The internet tells me this is a trumpet creeper or a cow itch (yes, cow itch, and there are cows very close by although I didn't see them scratching). It's a very pretty weed.

Yesterday was jam packed with so many good things and several very funny things, but all of that is overshadowed by a few very sad things happening to close friends of mine.

In deference to these families I will share my stories with you at a more appropriate time. Instead I'll merely say hang on to the ones you love, tell them you love them, and cherish every moment of good health and of life. Every second of life is a gift and we cannot take any of it for granted.

Go out and make the most of this beautiful Saturday, hug the ones you love, and be sure to stop and admire the beauty of what is around you, including the so-called weeds.

You have a beautiful gift for words and commentary CBW. I sense today there were highs and lows with your many friends.

I am forever grateful that he has a friend like you to help him through this difficult time. Ya'll no where I at if you need me! Cow itch I ask an expert about this curious plant. I was told it is called cow itch because the cows rub up against it. The oils of the plant are released on to the cows skin keeping insects away. (I just made that up,pretty good huh?) MM

my heart is with you... or is that the force that is with you.. something like that.. you know I am here and love you.

I am off to walk in the Benefit for Wesley today.. I neither trained to run it or walk it.. I may be dead by mile one.. this is not good.

I will have my camera with me for afterwards.

I think I miss blogging.. but my words are jumbled in my head.

Ugh, such a sad week in Mathews. Prayers for all the families and friends who are grieving this week. We are so blessed to live in a community with such great people who care so much. I hope all the families are comforted by all the love here in the long days ahead.

Jim, that's very kind of you, thanks so much.

Mark-Yes, I know where you are - drying yourself off after yesterday morning's antics. But that's a story for another time--a good story. Your cow itch theory is fantastic - and for all we know it may be true. Can't wait for the ghost story, and YES, I always need a break!

MPM-I will, and thank you.

AM-Good luck tonight, you'll do great. I had intended to do this myself but need to help my friend. I hope the walk/run raises lots of money. If the words are jumbled in your head, there's only one way to get them out - start writing. They'll sort themselves out later, or not as is the case with me.

Daryl-they're gorgeous. I took about 10 shots of this particular spot and love them all.

Anonymous-It's been a truly awful week here, but you're so right about this community. The people circle the wagons and help each other like no place I've ever seen. It's one of the many reasons I'm so glad to live here again.

In unrelated news, last night I dreamed it was Blog Fest and 100 people showed up and I had not gone to the grocery store and had nothing to feed them. It's sort of like that dream where you get on the school bus naked, or you have to take a test and haven't studied. What? You didn't dream that school bus one? Never mind.

Keep these friends - one who has already lost and one who is losing a loved one--in your thoughts and prayers. It's a very sad time for the county.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of loved ones. Having just gone through that, my empathies to those dealing with it. While they may be physically gone, they never are truly gone from our lives.

Trumpet Vine isn't really a weed, it's sold as a climbing vine, but it is slightly invasive. Hummingbirds LOVE it. It also comes in yellow, but the orangey-red is the better color.

MM- I might have to get you to take me on a tour of all the haunted locations in the area... I;m always looking for new places to investigate

I'm sorry to hear there is loss around you. We have a bit of loss around these parts too - not the same kind of loss, but a loss just the same. Suffice it to say, there's another crisis we need to get through. They say God doesn't give you more than you can handle. I wish he didn't have such faith in my ability to field these curve balls.

I need to hug more weeds, because even they are beautiful in their own way.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a turkey to roast!

Cherish your close-knit community, CBW, it is a blessing. The circle of life is so very difficult, and I'm so glad you are able to be with and comfort your friend.
I will keep you and your friends in my thoughts and prayers.

Jamie-invasive plant is probably the better term, although the Virginia Tech website called it a weed. I view it sort of like wisteria - something that can be intentional but around here for the most part is random and weed-like. Whatever it is, I love it. Mathews Mark would love to take you on a tour, and he's an excellent guide. Very entertaining.

Meg-I e-mailed you. Hang in there.

Deborah-Thanks. The people here in this community are absolutely fabulous and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Unrelated, let me know when you need me to parade by on the bike with the spandex. I'll need to buy some spandex. Oh, and a bike. but i'll do it!

TSA-Thank you, they are much appreciated.

My deepest sympathies to those suffering loss.

I paid for my weed, which is struggling rather than invasive, in my garden.

PG - The vines around here require absolutely no maintenance whatsoever and they come back better than ever each year. It's almost like the less attention you give it, the more it tries to show off to get attention.

Ann Marie said...

I am wondering if it is legal for PG to have announced that she paid for her weed on a blog... heeheheh

It looks like trumpet vine. Hummingbirds love this.
Sorry to hear of your friends.

Yes, we call that trumpet vine, and it is beautiful. Beautiful things can also be pains in the neck, which is how I justify my existence to my husband. He's not buying it either.
