Observation Deck

Last Thursday morning after taking a jog and prior to running a million errands, I drove down to Bavon and piddled around at the New Point Light observation deck.

Never underestimate the importance of piddling around.  It's right up there with lollygagging and dawdling.

If anyone needs lessons in how to piddle around, lollygag or dawdle, please let me know, I'm the global local expert.

Ann Marie is related to Elzy Burroughs, the man who built our lighthouse.

Her father Henry and she came over Friday night for dinner.  Among topics of conversation ranging from jogging to the heat to tomatoes to the Bible to kindred spirits, the lighthouse came up.  In addition to building our lighthouse, Elzy also built Old Point Comfort lighthouse, further south.

Lest you be wondering why anyone would use the word "lest" why there's all this talk about the lighthouse and not one single photo of it, the answer has to do with my camera and the zoom on it and my lack of patience with the whole thing.

In short, with only a few exceptions, any time I've tried to capture the lighthouse from this deck (which requires some zooming in) the photos come out blurry. And that makes me mad. And when CBW gets mad,   her head spins around completely on her shoulders nothing productive can possibly come about unless you count stomping, and I don't, so please enjoy these photos of the observation deck while you imagine a nice lighthouse off in the distance.

Or better yet,  click here for yet another of my midsadventures one of the few photos I've taken that's not blurry.

Click here  or here  or even here for more information about the lighthouse.

Love reading about your adventures (or mis-adventures)! Thanks for the info on the lighthouse. It has been discussed several times on the BC blog and will let fellow bloggers know. Keep writing and keep taking your wonderful pictures.

Hey almost anyone taking pix this time of year will get blurry pix--the humidity and heat are not conducive to good pix even with a great lens. My camera cannot take even a slightly good photo in the best conditions because my zoom ain't zoomy enough. Your camera would do some better than mine but still the atmospheric conditions were not with you...wait for a clear, low humidity day. Fall should be here soon. :) I'm hoping to get a DSLR at some point but the prices are going to have to come way, WAY down! Great photos but the weather and atmosphere we are currently experiencing aren't conducive to great pix. The sunsets can be Ok, depending. But I have yet to take even one realy good photo for some weeks now, most are Ok-blah. It isn't the photographer; it's the weather!

Hmmmm, it's another of those language things! If I were wandering around doing nothing much, I'd be tiddling around. If, on the other hand, I were to be found piddling around, it would be necessary to buy some Depends underwear... So piddling around on an observation deck would be a public nuisance.

Wv kydallin. Is that anoer kind of dawdling?

My mom used to use the word "lollygagging" for everything from dawdling too far behind when walking with her, to lying around doing nothing when there were things to be done.
I love lighthouses, blurry or not.

AM-I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, thanks again to you both for such a good time.

Meg-It is indeed a pretty one, and we had a great time there that day.

dghawk4-Thanks, glad to help out. Can't wait to hear who wins the house/blog cabin.

Maria-The gravestones were very old and in and of themselves not so frightening--until I remembered Ann Marie telling me there was a haunted graveyard near/around there. Being knee deep in marsh mud and wrapped up in vines did not make for a hasty exit once I realized I was in the wrong (to say the least) spot. Hope your week is good, too.

Snowtography-The humidity doesn't bother me so much as the zoom thing. There's still a whole lot about my camera I don't understand, and one of these days I'll actually pull out the manual and learn to use it properly. Thanks again to your son for stopping by and helping me with the boat the other night - I truly appreciate his help!

Daryl-It doesn't seem like two years ago that we were all there. Time sure continues to fly by, at break neck speed. I too miss seeing everyone this year.

Mrs.F -Piddle has the same meaning here too (which would in fact require some attention, if not Depends), but piddling *around* means lollygagging, at least in my personal dictionary, written and edited by yours truly, which includes words such as ridiculousity.

Kay-Lollygagging is one of my favorite words and past times.

Hope you had a great Monday - thank you for commenting and enjoy the remains of the day.

Humidity may not bother you but think of it this way--humidity means there's water in the air. So there's water vapor between you the thing (lighthouse, etc) that you're photographing. That will make a photo appear blurry even relatively close up. On a clear day with low humidity you may get a better shot. Then crop that sucker for a closer-up. We will have to get together one of these days. :)

No need to explain about the "gets mad, her head spins around completely on her shoulders" thing. All I do now is cuss, sometimes even under my breath. At least I no longer throw, stomp, run over with the car whatever it was that made me mad. That could get very expensive, very quickly considering the cost of my toys these days.
