Attitude

Several weeks ago, I drove down to Aarons Beach to check on things and discovered that a herd of juvenile delinquent fiddler crabs had uprooted a "Parking This Side of Road Only" sign, flung it into the mud and incorporated it into their twisted little fiddler crab habitat.

As an aside, that sign was always a mystery to me, and I'm not exactly surprised that the fiddler crabs would declare it to be ridiculous and toss it into the mud.  But still, they are brazen little crustaceans.

As you can see, these very tiny churls crabs sport nasty attitudes and thumb their noses by waving their one over-compensating claw as if there is any chance of intimidating Chesapeake Bay Woman, who is a black belt in marsh arts.

Their default disposition is mad, and their default mood is bad. Bad to the bone. Or the shell, as it were.

Above, you'll see where they've tried to bury themselves in the mud (those darker areas) because the sign is blocking their ability to retreat further away from me. They don't realize all they have to do is scurry around the sign.

Fiddler crabs is so stupid, to borrow and slightly modify a phrase from Yosemite Sam who at the time was speaking of dragons. (Click on this  link  or this one and tell me if the audio works.  I have just laughed myself silly with these Yosemite Sam clips. This is a first for me-the audio link, that is.  Not the Yosemite Sam quotes.  Oh, how I loved Yosemite Sam.)

There is only one other creature in our midst whose default temperament rivals that of the fiddler crab.  He sits proudly atop the Totem Pole of Intolerable, Insufferable Creatures.

His name is Gustav the Killer Goose, and he can be found mocking the world on Facebook twenty four hours a day.

If you have a Facebook account, do a search for "Gustav" and select the one who claims to be a public figure. Mrs. Foolery is the brains behind Gustav's status, which is always cantankerous, ornery and aggravating.

Just like those fiddler crabs.

p.s. Right now, I am so tickled with the Yosemite Sam audio clips that I am beside myself. Seriously.  Howling with laughter. What fiddler crabs? Killer goose who?

I had completely forgotten about Yosemite Sam until this evening. I could probably have forgotten about him for the rest of my life until I played those audio clips. Now I'm probably stuck with him in my head for the rest of my life, and I'll soon be hoping it's not much longer.

Meanwhile, I think the fiddler crabs were smart to take down that sign. From what I can figure out on Google Maps, your area doesn't need parking instructions. It sounds like a place I'd love to live.

My childhood heroes were Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear. I still watch them every chance I get. Yogi, if you remember, is "smarter than the average bear".

The fiddler crabs took down the sign because they knew that it was impossible to disobey. You can only park on one side of the road....unless you are towing a trailer, unhitch it on one side of the road and park your tow vehicle on the other side. Not a good idea....if you block Bubba, he will probably gently, or not so gently, push your vehicle(s) into the ditch and/or marsh.

Kay-You're right, we do not need signs to tell us where to park around here... and this one seemed particularly ridiculous. I suppose they just wanted everyone to park on one side so people with no driving skills would be able to get out (because there's not much space to turn around). But all these years people have been able to manage just fine. I have to say I'm with the fiddler crabs on this one.

Bay Browder-Huckleberry Hound was one of my favorites too. I had some sort of card game with HH on the cards, I think it was a matching game but can't remember for sure.

Kate-Yos. Sam never failed to make me laugh. So much attitude stuffed into such a tiny little body. I always wanted those mud flaps (is that what they're called?) with Yosemite pointing his pistols up in the air and the quote Back Off for the truck I never had.

It's Tuesday - another very long day ahead. Have a great day and don't forget to click on all of those audio clips. A few are repeats but not all.

I never heard of Yosemite Sam... until now!

But now of course, he is running around inside my head. Oh! Now I also have "Is it Henry, the mild-mannered janitor?" to keep him company up there. Help! What cartoon was that FROM?

Ah, Gustav... I don't know what to say. I think I might be his biggest fan? Do you think more fibre in his diet might improve his temperament? Or Carters Little Liver Pills?

I have used the word "tarnation" 5 times now this morning just because I saw the name Yosemite Sam. Normally people would think I was insane, however, most around here are used to my random animal noises and breaking into song and dance steps whenever the mood strikes me.

oooh .. new technical stuff ... and it works .. more a brava to Blogger than to you, not that I am not in awe of your audio linkage ability, its just that Blogger eats links, makes photos vanish and regularly feasts on whole blog posts ...

I actually think we called our second son Sam because of Yosemite Sam. Mostly because husband was not overly fond of my first choice, Foghorn L. Jaffe.

These were hilarious!! And well done, you. All techie and whatnot.

What a fine demeanor you have. You're a role model for fauna everywhere. xxoo
