The Tree

Every day, sometimes as many as six or more times, I drive past this tree as I leave or return home home from doing this or that.

Often, it's very early in the morning as I set off for my 50+ mile drive to work Across The River, far, far away.

Usually I'm not too happy about  leaving home and commuting to work.

(Actually, that sentence wins the award for Understatement of the Year.)

But the alternative would mean that I had no job.

(Or that my dream of  a reality TV show had come true; but this is reality, not my dreams.)

(Don't you love the elegant curve of that tree limb that seems to just barely catch the shower of yellow leaves above?)

With no job, I'm not sure how I'd be able to support our little existence here.

Without an ability to support our little existence here, I'd miss many things, including the brilliant yellows this particular tree produces for us every single year.

So when that early morning alarm ignites the fuse on my arsenal of complaints, I immediately stifle the overwhelming urge to complain (and believe me, it's overwhelming) and try, however difficult it may be, to focus on the good.

Like the fact that I have a job.

And this beautiful, exquisite tree.

I am very, very grateful for all of it.

A wonderful tree, and a wonderful Thanksgivingly attitude, even with the parentheses.

Lovely pictures! and lovely positive thoughts(even if you have to look thru the inane and insane things you have to do everyday). Do I win the award for worst sentence construction or what?!?

It's a great tree! I love the color! I too give thanks for my job...without which the Brute Squad would have to eat store bought food...

I think that so many of us have so much to be thankful for. It's good to see it, isn't it?

I'm feeling awfully thankful for things like yellow trees and the full moon and a large lot full of freshly fallen leaves that needed to be raked, and for friends who dropped in to visit us this weekend, just because they like us, even though they kept us from getting to all of the raking that needed to be accomplished. Because we DID eventually get it done, if not according to MY ambitious schedule. And what's more important - relocating a bunch of dried up leaves, or maintaining connections with awesome people?

I rest my (thankful) case.
