Excitement

These were taken about a week ago at Aaron's Beach.

Back in the days before major events like earthquakes.

2011 has been a very interesting year thus far.

First, we had a tornado.

Yesterday as I was daydreaming about Bora Bora very hard at work, an earthquake shook my office building so hard we were swaying.

A text from Baby Sister last night stated, "Mamma said the chandelier was swinging and the mirror was shaking but Daddy didn't feel it because he was cutting grass."

(Wait.  What?)

Middle Sister's Facebook post reported, "Just talked to Mamma and Daddy....Daddy was on the lawn mower and said he didn't know if there was any earthquake in Mathews. Mamma said the house shook, the chandelier spun around for 30 seconds, the sofa was jumping off of the ground. Always two different perspectives about the same event. LOL!

Baby Sister posted the following status on Facebook: "Well, I WAS going to go jogging but I think I will have some wine instead."

Last but not least, Chesapeake Bay Mother posted the following:  "Gustav didn't even honk."

Now a hurricane is potentially headed this way!

Who said life in Mathews is boring?

Chesapeake Bay Woman put your hand down.

That's too much excitement for me. I hope the storm really doesn't come.

Yes, far too much excitement for me too...with my little family far away from me in NYC. My daughter said she felt it in her building, but her husband didn't cos he was out walking.
Have been in a similar situation myself when living in Darwin...there was an earth tremor, and I hardly felt it as I was opening a gate, but there was evidence that it had been a bit rough with things inside!
Here is hoping the tornado not bother you all.
Just glad everyone is OK.

There's probably something wrong with me because I'm yearning to head down to the 'Ville to ride out Irene. I haven't been in a Deltaville hurricane since Gloria back in the 80's. I did feel the Great EarthShake of 2011 but I initially thought it was gas. Seriously, our building not the most stable, I took off and ran out leaving my coworkers to sit in an impending pile of rubble. They were fine. But my ability to do work was shot for the rest of the day.

OK sooo not funny...

I was at work and the Borgata was swaying back and forth, very scary for a building that large...

so glad everyone is OK...

I moved to Mathews for the boring...too much excitement around here. :) So, you gonna let Gustav ride out the storm in your house? He can't be out in a hurricane.

I have an enclosed porch. All the cats and Gustav can wait out the winds in there. Newspapers should do it. Emergency plan is in place.

wv: I'll probably "gragiap" cleaning up the mess.

Well, I DID end up jogging yesterday and I swear I either stepped into the twilight zone or was the victim of an aftershock. All of a sudden, I started tripping/swaying/running to the left and FAR left like Daffy Duck or Wyle E. Coyote after they've been hit over the head with a frying pan. HOWEVER, according to the news there were no aftershocks at that particular time..hmmmmmmm. maybe I DID get hit over the head with a frying pan..who knows.

Love,

Baby Sis

Gee! Mathews sounds almost as boring as New Kent! My big excitement is hearing the police sirens as they go up & down Rt249! Oh! I forgot about watching the squirrels play "King of the Feeder". That's usually good for a chuckle.

Wait. He didn't feel it? Wasn't he, like, naked, on that mower of his???

And in other news, my UVA student reports that all the drama was silly. Stupid know-it-all college kids.

I was scared. Scared!

Mathews? Boring? Completely untrue.

I KNOW, RIGHT? My chandelier didn't spin around, but I sure did. Very helpful and good in emergencies I am. But I did have enough common sense to pour my post-earthquake glass of nerve-calming wine into a plastic tumbler, lest my good stemware perish in an aftershock. one can never be too careful.

You should live-blog Irene!
