Soybeans II

Continuing with yesterday's theme of soybeans, which are prospering in Mathews right now, here are some more shots taken just last evening from Williams Wharf Road.

I went down there for a plod jog after work since the Chesapeake Bay Children were elsewhere and I had an evening to myself.

What I really wanted to do was fall face first into bed and take a decades-long really long nap.

But I knew if I did that I would be up in the middle of the night.

And since I have to get up at o'dark thirty to go to work, that would not be good.

Speaking of which, I am most displeased to report that at five thirty, when I usually drag myself on hands and knees to the coffeemaker, begging for that first merciful cup wake up, the sun is no longer shining brightly, as it has been all summer.

Now, it's oh so dark at that hour.

This is not good.

CBW does not like waking up before ten o'clock in the dark. In fact, she feels strongly that it goes against all the rules of nature unless she were a raccoon or a possum or some other nocturnal creature, which last she checked she is not.

In conclusion, what all this has to do with soybeans is absolutely nothing, except that CBW thrives in the long days of bright sunshine and beautiful colors of summer and could go swimming in the sea of green that each crop temporarily provides.

And waking up in the dark doesn't amount to a hill o' beans.

I remember those days. Up at 5. Leave home at 6. Work at 7. Glad they're long ago and far away for me.
Chortle.
But I've never seen soybeans growing. Do they just grow and grow until they get to be great big beans? And then they get cut up into tofu?
Okay, I jest. I quite enjoy edamame in Japanese restaurants.

I have always thought the soybean fields are pretty too. There is a farmer in the Northern Neck who has starting growing sunflowers to harvest...talk about beautiful! Acres of those things just make you smile when you look at them. I was lucky enough to have a huge field that I got to pass every day!
I always enjoy your pic's so much!

You are truly a summer person (with a sunny disposition).
The only time I enjoy getting up at o'dark thirty is when we're going on a trip. It's very exciting. It will happen again on Saturday. (Don't tell George).

Kay-Our soybeans don't get much bigger than this before they start turning yellow, then a crispy, withered up brown right before the fall harvest.

Trinia-I can only imagine how beautiful those sunflowers are. You've almost tempted me to take a drive over to your neck of the woods just to find them, I adore sunflowers. Thanks for telling me about them.

CG-Can't wait to hear about your trip, and I promise George will not hear about it from me.

MPM-You may be right...

Daryl - I know. It's very depressing. 8:00 p.m. as I type this and just about dark.

Well, it's been one *doozie* of a week thus far. Let's hope the rest is sunshine and smooth sailing.

Thanks for reading.
