Farmers Market

Today Chesapeake Bay Daughter and I will be down at the Court House selling daffodils at the Farmers Market.

This is our first such adventure, but here is the preliminary game plan--from which I've been working for several days now:

1. Wake up.

2. Drive to the Court House, specifically the Court Green, and have a grand time selling daffodils.

Sounds easy, doesn't it?

Here at the 11th hour Chesapeake Bay Daughter asked me a few questions. These questions prove that she has invested a great deal more time--which is to say any time at all--thinking through this process, focusing on mission-critical details such as:

-How much will we charge for the daffodils? (insert sounds of crickets)
-Will we have a sign? (more crickets)
-What about a table? (the sound of my heart pounding)
-Do we have change in case the customers have large bills? (the sound of the blood pressure cuff bouncing from my arm off the wall)
- What time do we have to be there? (the sound of a body collapsing on the floor)

If you are one of the two people in Mathews reading this, please come down to the Court Green and help me figure out what I need to do buy some local produce. You don't have to buy our daffodils, I'm only doing this to teach Chesapeake Bay Daughter some life lessons.

As it turns out, she seems to be teaching me some as well
.

p.s. Yesterday's post talked of pictures of the tombstone from the Amazon Jungle thicket near the New Point Lighthouse. However, due to a variety of distractions, not the least of which included a dead opossum (which I still swear is a hyena); another photo op courtesy of Mathews Mark (which included an unexpected black snake); and some other natural disasters up to and including being ill-prepared for the Farmers Market, I didn't have time to focus on that today.

Evidently I didn't have time to focus on the finer details of selling daffodils at a Farmers Market either.

And please be careful when you go wandering down over-grown country lanes...sometimes you scare me.

Good luck at the market, and hope you have a good time, lack of prices, change, table etc notwithstanding.

Have fun selling those lovely flowers. I am sure all the questions will be worked out satisfactorily!

Oh what fun! I swear I love doing stuff like that. Next time let me know and I'll scoot right on up (or is it down) to work the crowd with Chesapeake Bay Daughter.

Once upon a time, I had three huge lemon trees in my backyard. One person asked about buying some, and soon I hade my trees picked bare...it was a good thing. I ended up selling more lemons than anything else.

Happy Easter and isn't this the best Saturday to sell Daffodils?

SUCCESS!

Chesapeake Bay Daughter sold all the daffodils - gone - only 2 hours into the whole thing. She made over $50, which is pretty good for free daffodils. There was still time left--about another hour or two---when we left, we just didn't have enough inventory to keep up with the demand. Plus we slashed prices and they went like hotcakes.

We're going back next weekend and will be selling specialty daffodils AND my mother's artwork. She had taken an old piece of wood and painted the word "daffodils" on it and embellished it with flowers. We used it for our table, and 4 people offered to buy it. Unbelievable.

We had a great time. I met some wonderful people and will be talking about them and sharing a photo of this event sometime in the next week or two.

Mrs. F - Excellent idea! The only problem is how to capture, transport and display the beast without stitches and a trip to the emergency room. Of course there are ways...

The Chesapeake Bay Children are so excited about this Farmers Market stuff that I can barely contain my own excitement. CB Son has wisely indicated that my mother can bake fresh loaves of bread to sell ...The more we talk the more we realize that between the two households we have a whole summer's worth of fun Farmers Market Saturdays ahead of us.

Your comments weren't working for me on Friday... I'm catching up today.

I would LOVE that! I have retail in my blood. I'll bring my paint brush in July and help CB Mother. : )
