Boats

These were taken on Saturday evening, towards the end of what started as a very hectic day.

Daughter had to travel several hours to an invitational cross country meet, which meant that she had to be alert quasi-awake, fed and delivered to the high school by (gulp) 5:00 a.m. (Translation:  I woke up at 4 to fix her breakfast.)

Son had to take the SATs, for which he's taken prep classes, practice tests and done just about everything except consult personally with the test developers to improve his score.  He had to be quasi-awake alert, fed, moderately caffeinated (half a cup of black coffee) and out the door by 7:00 a.m.

In other words, Saturday started off worse than a normal school day.

There was nothing normal about any of it.

Things vastly improved, however, for everyone.  Daughter's race went OK in spite of oppressive heat. Son said his test was brutal (his exact word), but now it's over and done with.  I was able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening over on the Northern Neck with someone I wouldn't know if not for this blog.

I'm still not working the paying job due to the government shutdown, however that doesn't mean I'm not working busy.  Somehow things feel more hectic than usual.  I'm not sure how that's possible, but there you have it.

What's happening in your neck of the woods?

Well, it's my birth anniversary today. I love your boat photos, but I am still laughing at the photos you took at the fair...nobody would believe some of those signs, had you not recorded them (although maybe VA residents might, having seen something like them before.)
It may somehow be lucky that you got to recover from that crazy weekend without having to work...but by cracky, those gov't. fools had best be sure to pay every furloughed worker in full for all this laid- off time !

I took the day off today to go measure the area where the wedding is to be held. Then I went for a hike and fell on my butt. Actually it was more like fall on my hip and roll over on my butt. I was more worried about the camera and the phone both were fine. The hip/butt not so much. Then I went home to bake 4 loaves of zucchini bread for the bingo night at the Brat Child's school and then planted my fall seeds. Somehow I think going to work would have been more relaxing.

1Just in case furlough goes on way longer than you hoped : http://www.classwarfareexists.com/website-posts-temporary-freelance-gigs-for-furloughed-government-employees/

I hope this is helpful for someone you may know, but specially for you if you need it.

LLC, HAPPY BIRTHDAY y feliz cumpleanos! You were born in close proximity to several people who are close to me, including Baby Sis and Daughter. Also, thank you so much for the link. I hope your day has been great.

DGH-Feels like I post boat pictures every other day, but more than likely I have them and never post them. Anyway, hope all is well with you.

DJ-Good gracious, work would have been like a trip to the spa by comparison.

Thomas- Thank you. Very much.

LLC-Thanks again. Y happy birthday!

Looking to buy into a retirement village. I'm feeling old. Had a trip to the city today, nice to get out, after being confined to barracks a bit, waiting for the new grand baby to arrive. Arrive he did last week, in a hurry, (15 minutes after they arrived at the hospital 15 minutes away), so I am now able to be more than 5 minutes away. The kids are over the moon about the new baby brother! Cute.
Love the boats photos. I even got to see the ocean when I had to find a pharmacy the other day when it was a public holiday!

Got my feet out of the ugly black boots today. They look deformed, but at least I got a good report from the doctor saying he is more than pleased! Now for the swelling to go down and pain to cease.
I think a boat ride should be in our next Blog Fest!!! Kudos to the kiddos on their demanding Saturday...
