Heron

The other day I was down Onemo taking some photos from the public landing.

All of a sudden I got that feeling, the one you get when you just know someone's watching your every move.

I froze in my tracks and slowly, cautiously glanced around.

And there he was: a Chesapeake Bay Flamingo great blue heron.

He was hunkered down trying to stay warm.  Although they usually don't like their territory invaded, this heron didn't fly away.

I, on the other hand, soon did.

It was freezing cold and my unprotected fingers couldn't take it any more.

They say we can expect some warmer temperatures this weekend.

I sure hope they know what they're talking about.

I'm blaming the cold weather for everything that is wrong these days, up to and including my wanton use of obscure words like "hunker." It's not right, I tell you.

Have a great Saturday. Is anyone doing anything interesting?

Love how you called the Blue Heron Chesapeake Bay Blue Flamingo! I told someone once the lake on street behind us has Blue Flamingos instead of Pink as in Florida.

He/she is a grand bird - love the pose giving you the 'stink' eye, thinking it would make you leave:) You take the most interesting photos!

Right now I'm hunkering down in my living room.
But later, I plan on sitting in the sunshine and warm temps that we've been promised. But it's not looking like it's going to happen. At least, not today.

Good morning everybody...

in the summer time while driving down RT 30, The White Horse Pike, going into Atlantic City to work, (or on the way to the beach) there are bays on both sides of the road, if you are lucky you can see MANY white Egrets, they are soooo pretty. They are a member of the Heron family but all white. The babies are the cutest things.

There will be no hunkering for me today, today is a work day, the real job, the one I get paid for. Not to say what I did yesterday wasn't work. I work today from 12 noon till 8 pm and then have to be back there tomorrow morning at 6am. (pray for meeee)

Now CBW you weren't just saying that yesterday for those Vietnamese spring rolls were you... ;~)

Maria - The Vietnamese spring rolls would be icing on the oatmeal cookies! Just an added, extra bonus. No, as much as you seem to like this area and have an ardent desire to get away from the hustle and bustle, I think this would be a perfect place for you. If you bring Vietnamese spring roll making skills with you, then obviously it's a perfect fit. (By the way, in a past life I spent lots of summers at the Jersey Shore, Mannahawkin and Long Beach Island, to be exact. Every now and again we'd head to Atlantic City - once we went took some sort of a cruise down there, lots of fun but that was many, many years ago. Haven't been there in probably 15+ years.)

Happy Saturday, everyone. I have a little adventure planned that will ensure further dawdling and procrastination on the things that need doing but hold lots of promise for some blog fodder if things go the way I hope.

Also, I don't know what "they" were talking about, but it is not at all warm here today. Maybe tomorrow...

Yes,yes, I know that " someone must be watching me" feeling all too well. In fact, it sneaks up on me every time I exit my car at work, knowing that the big boss in our corporate office is watching the parking lot on GOOGLE EARTH.Yes, you read that right. They also sign on to our desk tops on a regular basis to see what we're doing. I sure hope they enjoy your blog, my facebook page, youtube music videos, random searches on " what do cats act like when they're in heat",and all the online shopping I do... Much like the blue heron, I don't like my territory invaded either and cannot fly away. So the underlying lesson here is: quit stalking those blue herons!!

Love,
Baby Sis
