Mobjack

Yesterday, after enjoying a leisurely morning of not having to rush anywhere,
I went to the grocery store, and then, on a whim, decided to drive to Mobjack.

I needed some new photos; I am tired of going to the same places.

Mobjack is out of the way for me.  I only make it down here three or four times a year.

Yesterday's bright sunshine made it a worthwhile visit.

If it were warmer, that bench would be very inviting.

But it is still very, very cold.  Way too cold to sit on a waterfront bench.

Good news about this seemingly never ending, depressing state of cold is in sight, however.

Last night I attended the high school's spring sports meeting, where they herd parents and students into the cafeteria to talk about concussions and forms and schedules and how schedules will definitely change and how your student must attend school in order to play and other informative details relating to the next round of sports.  Then they herd you into a smaller room specific to your spring sport--in our case that is soccer.

So, in spite of the fact that winter and basketball season are ongoing--with a game Thursday at West Point and at Charles City on Saturday--and in spite of the fact that there will be no rest for the weary in between basketball and soccer, the good news is SOMEBODY SAID THE WORD SPRING!

Sailboat

These were taken Sunday from Edwards Creek over on Gwynn's Island.

Although it took me a while to notice, there's a baseball cap hanging there on the mast.

(It's easier to see in the photo above.)

The rather dreary, overcast day combined with
an utter lack of wind (which is unusual this time of day)
created some unique photo opportunities.

Speaking of wind, we're bracing for some.

Although the temperatures hovered near sixty degrees earlier yesterday,
by the morning the wind chill is expected to be below zero.

Bora Bora!!

Brrrrrrrrr!!

Cormorants

These pictures, taken from Aaron's Beach, date back to 2009.

That was back in the days when we actually saw the sun, and it wasn't raining
and freezing cold even in the month of May.

Although I've been a little busy lately and unable to take many new pictures,
even if I had the time the weather has just been so uncooperative.
I think it's time to put Mother Nature in time out for being
so obstinate about relinquishing winter.

Enough is enough with this weather.

...said the person with Seasonal Affective Disorder and a severe Vitamin D deficiency--even though she takes megadoses of supplements every day.

(Or whenever she remembers to, whichever is less frequent.)

There really are cormorants in this picture, you just need a telescope to see them.
This particular shot wasn't really about cormorants anyway.  It actually had
more to do with my fascination  with the "V" those poles are making in this and the first two shots.
(Have I mentioned how easily entertained I am?)

This was taken last week on yet another gloomy, dreary, overcast day.

Click here for more info  on cormorants, including the fun fact that they sometimes make deep, pig-like grunts and are often confused with the common loon.

Hmmm.

It's quite possible the Chesapeake Bay Family may also have a cormorant clinging firmly to a branch of the family tree, right next to Lucille Ball and Wayne Newton.
