Three Things

Williams Wharf

Welcome to the day of the week known as Three Thing Thursday, where you have a chance to make Chesapeake Bay Woman's day by leaving a comment with three (or more) thoughts, however random they may seem, whatever happens to be on your mind.

CBW will go first, only because there's no other way around it.

1.  On Monday, March 14th, from 5 - 6, there is a meeting at the library for any vendors considering participating in the Mathews Farmers Market.  My children, my mother and I sold daffodils and CB Mother's artwork for a couple of weekends last year, and we really loved it.  Middle Peninsula residents can sell anything they make, bake or grow.  Contact Rebecca at (804) 725-8916 if you're interested in participating.

2.  All that Farmers Market stuff would be great practice for the Gwynn's Island Festival, which is June 25th. With any luck, I hope to be selling crab hats at this year's event.

3.  What does it say about my life that I am looking forward to selling daffodils and crab hats in my "spare" time? (On second thought, don't answer that.)

4.  On April 9th at Williams Wharf, the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is sponsoring a 3-Mile Run, 1-Mile Pet Walk.  Click here to access the GMHS's home page and scroll down to the Events section for details and  registration forms.

5. Remember that the number three on Three Thing Thursday is just a suggestion.  Usually CBW cannot even go by her own guidelines, so feel free to color outside the lines and provide as little or as much as you want in the comments section.

Now it's your turn.

Thank you in advance for participating. Your comments are very much appreciated, and I love reading them even if I don't always get a chance to respond properly.

Shiloh

January 2011

On the same property where the old Gwynn's Island School once stood is a building that used to be Shiloh United Methodist Church.

January 2011

Shiloh was founded in 1893, and services were held in this building in its previous location across the street until 1976, when the congregation merged with Mathews Chapel in Cobbs Creek.

February 2009

The building is now used by the Gwynn's Island Civic League.

February 2009

To recap:
  • The Gwynn's Island Civic League building used to be a church named Shiloh.
  • Shiloh United Methodist Church was moved from its original location directly across the street.
  • The site on which it now sits used to be the Gwynn's Island School.
  • The Gwynn's Island School was moved across the way to house what is now the Gwynn's Island Museum.
  • Anyone else confused?
  • No matter which building or patch of land you pick out in Mathews County, rest assured it has lived a thousand several lives.
In other news:
  • The Gwynn's Island Festival is held on this site each year.
  • Last year Chesapeake Bay Woman wore a crab hat to the festival.
  • She was shocked to realize she was not the only one.
  • A lady at one of the food booths wore one too.
  • This year's festival will be Saturday, June 25.
  • Chesapeake Bay Woman thinks it would be a grand idea to sell crab hats, since last year so many people asked where she purchased hers.
  • (She purchased hers from a campground over on the Eastern Shore and cannot believe how much joy this one small hat with crazy claws has brought her.)
  • Anyone wishing to reserve booth space at the Gwynn's Island Festival should contact Cricket Call at (804) 725- 7577.
  • My mother and I played softball against Cricket back in the late 1970s/early 1980s.
  • Oh, how I loved the summer softball leagues back then.
  • I'll stop now before I venture too far off track.
  • Too late.
This concludes a post which had its roots in Shiloh but quickly sprouted out to crabs hats, the Gwynn's Island Festival, and Parks and Rec softball.
