Three Things

Here we are, right smack dab in the middle of another Thursday. The weeks seem to be whizzing by, all a blur.  Anyway, Thursday is the day of the week where I encourage everyone to share three random thoughts. On any given day most everything written here is unintentionally random, so I love Thursdays because I actually have permission from myself to be completely, intentionally random.

That last sentence was brought to you courtesy of the month of February, when the previous several months of sunlight deprivation have taken their cumulative toll on my brain.

Let's begin.

1. That throwing up sickness is goin' around.  Evidently it's not just the 24-hour thing. This Mutant Virus causes at least three days of flat-on-your-back-want-to-die conditions. Thus far the Chesapeake Bay Family has managed to evade Mutant Virus.  But yesterday afternoon at Chesapeake Bay Daughter's basketball game, I swear I saw the germs leap from a woman's mouth right up my nostrils as she was telling me that she'd just recovered from the Three Days of I Just Want To Die syndrome.  Then Daughter and I attended a meeting in an auditorium jam packed with germ-spreading parents, including the one mother sitting in front of me who sneezed with reckless abandon during the entire presentation.

(In her older age, CBW has become enamored with the phrase "reckless abandon" a bit of a hypochondriac, which intensifies her innate ability to see germs.  Mind you, she's definitely not OCD and doesn't walk around slathering herself in hand sanitizer.  She actually hates hand sanitizer and proudly declines it whenever the OCD people she works with offer it to her. She's just a little paranoid, especially when she suddenly has a headache as she writes about all these virus and germ showers she's just been exposed to.)

2. The meeting CB Daughter and I attended was an orientation for Mathews High School.  Next year I will be the mother of two teenagers in high school.  How did this happen?  My youngest will be in high school next year? Also, when did high school become so complicated?  There are four different types of diplomas, and who knows how many electives, and decisions that need to be made by next week.  I remember having to choose one elective and everything else was decided for me.

2b. By the way, one of those years my elective was typing.  Back in the days when it was called typing not keyboarding.  (The keyboard pertained to piano lessons.) The days when there were no computers at all, just typewriters.  Mrs. McMullen, my teacher, gave me a life skill that came in ever so handy with the advent of technology. Thank you, Mrs. McMullen.

3. Yesterday Chesapeake Bay Son started track practice, led by my friend Coach Forrest.  Exactly thirty years ago this spring I was preparing for the final track season of my high school career.  Track was my passion.  Although CB Son has run fall cross country the past two years, this will be his first time participating in spring track, which is a whole other world. I cannot wait.

Now it's your turn. Please share three--or more--thoughts, whatever happens to be on your mind. Today you have permission to let your mind wander freely, unencumbered.

Three Things

Is this a heron or one of our mutant mosquitoes?
It's hard to tell the difference these days, the insects are so big.

Welcome to another Thursday, which is the day we are encouraged to share three things.

Let's go.

1. Yesterday was my parents' anniversary.    Click here to read my mother's blog post on the topic. They actually spent their anniversary attending Chesapeake Bay Daughter's first soccer game of the season. I couldn't be there because Chesapeake Bay Son had a cross country meet at exactly the same time. I can't thank them enough for being there for her.

2. The Mathews High School Cross Country teams (girls and boys) won against Middlesex yesterday on the campus of Rappahannock Community College. The mosquitoes were ferocious--I swear they had teeth-- and the evening was sweltering hot, but they did very well in spite of the adverse conditions.

3. The mosquitoes around here now are definitely a new breed. Fighting Mermaid may have hit the nail on the head in the Comments last night when she said this herd flock may have arrived from the Amazon courtesy of Hurricane Irene.  On Facebook recently, someone said these mosquitoes were so big they had bones. Another person said he saw a tick on one of them. These things are BIG.

Now it's your turn. Please share three or more things on whatever topic happens to come to mind. Anything to distract us from the scratching and itching of biting, mutant mosquitoes that are the size of herons.

Three Things

Public Landing, Onemo

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where Chesapeake Bay Woman attempts to limit the number of random thoughts she spews forth to three rather than her usual thirty three. Then you're encouraged to share three thoughts related to whatever topic happens to be floating through your mind at the moment.

Let's begin.

1.  The Mathews High School Cross Country teams won their first meet last night at Beaverdam in Gloucester.  They competed against Essex, King William and West Point.  Hopefully this weekend I'll find time to load photos to the cross country blog  that I haven't updated since last year maintain.

2. Mathews Market Days is this weekend!  With any luck I'll be there Friday wandering aimlessly with my camera.  On Saturday Chesapeake Bay Daughter's class will be manning a booth outside Dr. Stewart's old office (the yellow building across from the Confederate statue) to raise money for their class trip.  They'll be selling handmade belts and bracelets as well as baked goods.

3.  If I had my act together, and naturally I don't, I'd be manning a crab hat booth or a Mathews calendar booth at Market Days.  But sadly, with too many irons in the fire, I will never have don't have my act together nor do I have the organizational skills time. However next year I hope to be peddling a book (and maybe crab hats, and perhaps even a calendar).

By the way, I think I uttered those exact same words last year at this time...

Now it's your turn to share three things. Whatever you want.  Anything at all.

Three Things

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where we're encouraged to share three (or more) random (or related) thoughts.  Whatever happens to be on your mind.

I'll begin, but only because I must.

1.  These photos were taken from our campsite over on the Eastern Shore last weekend.  It is funny how I traveled over 100 miles to sleep in a tent with 4 teenagers only to enjoy the exact same sights very similar to what we have right here in Mathews.  But there's something nice about running away being far from home even if you are sleeping in a tent full of kids on what feels like a slab of concrete in the middle of a raging storm.

1b.  I promise that's the last time I'm going to talk about that camping trip.  However, I am starting to think I'm suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

2.  The hurricane is supposed to hit this weekend.

2b. (Hello, Stress? Didn't I just endure you and your associated hurricane-force winds last weekend while trapped in a tent two hours away from home? Oops! I mentioned that camping trip again.)

2c. Is it me or has the wind already picked up significantly? Or is it still blowing from Tuesday's earthquake last weekend's Middle of the Night Storm? (Oops!) Is it possible that a hurricane so far away can create such steady wind, or is this related to something else, such as post-traumatic stress disorder?

3. It's been really cool the past several nights. I don't mean cool as in kool. I mean cool as in brisk, chilly. What a treat it's been to sleep with the sliding glass doors open. The Insect Serenade each night is fine as long as they stay outside very relaxing after a long day of earthquakes, commutes to work, and the details of every day life that include transporting children to and from various school-related activities even though school has not yet begun.

4. Click here for Chesapeake Bay Mother's blog, and check out the second post down called Three Days of the Codgers.  It's pretty darn funny. (The photos of the VW and Howard in the first post go along with that post.)

That's all I have for the time being. Now it's your turn.

Please tell me three (or more) random (or related) things going on in your life right now.

Three Things

Bethel Beach

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where we're encouraged to share three things no matter how ridiculous or random they may seem.  Some might argue that's the theme of this blog every single day, except usually there's no recommended number of random things shared.  While that may be true, let's stop over analyzing before this introductory paragraph stretches from here to Bora Bora, which, in case you didn't know, is precisely where I want to be most days.

I'll go first.

1.  On Saturday I'll be the mother of a sixteen-year-old.  Only yesterday I was blinking back tears as I got up for the 2 a.m. feeding Chesapeake Bay Son stood on stage at his preschool Christmas pageant.  I was crying so much I steamed up the videocamera and you could barely make out any of the program on the video footage.  I wonder what happened to that video....and, come to think of it, I wonder why exactly I was crying. Anyway, it's hard to believe he'll be 16.  That means I must be 100, at least. Except inside I feel 16.  How did this happen?

2.  A week from tomorrow I am taking the Chesapeake Bay Teenagers Children and their friends tent camping over on the Eastern Shore.  Somebody medicate me slap me, please, I'm clearly delusional!  Oh, and allow me to make a prediction:  The Eastern Seaboard will experience a hurricane of epic proportions next Friday night, just as I'm blinking back tears trying to shove tent poles through invisible holes in nylon fabric while sweat pours down my nose into a puddle on the ground, the very same puddle I'll be sleeping in all weekend--if you can call sleeping in a tent in Amazon Jungle humidity sleeping.

3.  We're just about a month away from Mathews Market Days, "The Showcase of a Creative Community," according to the website. Personally, I've always just called it Market Days.

Click here for more information on this annual event which includes fun, frivolity, funnel cakes, music, and more.

Now it's your turn to share three things.  Whatever happens to be on your mind.

Three Things

At the risk of sounding like a broken record since it feels like I just typed these same tired words yesterday, it's Thursday, which means it's time to share three things.

1. Last night was the first time I'd set foot in the Gloucester Walmutant Walmart since....June, maybe? I couldn't get out of there fast enough thanks to all the crazy people on scooters blocking the aisles and exits for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the aroma of rotisserie chickens that infused every single square foot of the place. It's sort of like the intoxicating smell of movie theater popcorn, except instead of watching a movie, you're watching a freak show a horror show rows upon rows of boxes of kitchen trash bags, trying to make an informed decision on the pros and cons of kitchen size vs. lawn size vs. scented vs. black vs. clear vs. white vs. odor control vs. this is why I shop at Best Value where there are no choices, no decisions, just get what you need and get out.....all the while drooling all over yourself wondering how long such an aromatic rotisserie chicken would actually last on a 20-minute car ride home. (The answer is it would be gone before I made it out the parking lot.)

2. At the risk of stating the obvious, I have problems with run-on sentences; meandering thoughts unrelated to the original topic; dangling participles; misplaced car keys modifiers; redundancy; overpunctuation; underpunctuation; ridiculousity; and much, much more . Please see this entire post above as one of my finest examples yet.

(Dear High School English Teacher,  it's not your fault.)

3. High school sports have already begun. Chesapeake Bay Son started cross country practice this week, which means he has to be at the Intermediate School or Beaverdam (in the next county over) at 6:30 most mornings. We are once again at the mercy of the sports/school calendar.

3b. Serenity now.

Now it's your turn to share three things, whatever you want. Anything at all.

Three Things

It's time once again to usher in Thursday, the day of the week where we are encouraged to share three things no matter what they are or how random they seem.

I'll go first.

1.  Happy Happy Birthday to Middle Sister who turns a year older today.   Click here for last year's birthday tribute.

1b.  Please click here for a picture of the Chesapeake Bay Sisters (minus Baby Sis who was not yet born) from circa 1970.

1c. For a most entertaining story written by Chesapeake Bay Mother about Middle Sister, click here.

2. I am really looking forward to the weekend.

3. These heron shots were taken a couple of weeks ago on an impromptu boat trip with some neighbor friends of mine.

Now it's your turn. What's on your mind?

Three Things

Thursday is upon us once again, and that means it's time to share three things.

1.  It's hotter than blue blazes here now, and more humid than the Amazon Jungle.  Yet no matter how hot it gets I still love this time of year.  I love the sun, the bright light, and the extreme heat warmth.  I love sweating, even. In fact, I'll take a hot, sweltering July summer day over a cold, dark January night any day of the year.

2.  Last night was like Thanksgiving in July here at the Chesapeake Bay Family compound.  My mother, whose garden overfloweth, fixed the most incredible dinner for us:  fried flounder, stewed tomatoes, squash, green beans, spoon bread, mashed potatoes, and salad.  Every single bite was a little taste of heaven.  My favorite was the stewed tomatoes.  I'm pretty sure I could eat vine ripened tomatoes until the cows come home.  (If we had cows, that is. And if they were lost, far, far away from home.)

3. To preserve peace in a staff meeting at work yesterday, I was forced to kill a jug hornet, which I didn't want to do.  Although I don't really care for insects, I have no particular desire to kill them unless absolutely necessary.  When one of my co-workers started freaking out over the fact that one was in our conference room, my boss (a man) glanced over at me and said, "Chesapeake Bay Woman is a country girl; she'll take care of it."  I assured them the jug hornet (or whatever it was) had no interest in harming us, however nobody believed me. So things escalated, and  I had to kill it.  When I told my mother this story last night she said that karma would ensure that I would come back as a jug hornet in my next life.

So, there's that to look forward to.

What's happening in your world?

Three Things

Sunset from the Islander, 2010

Welcome to the day of the week known as Three Thing Thursday, where we share tres cosas, three things.  Of course, tres/three is only a suggestion.  I've never been a fan of arbitrary rules, and three is a rather arbitrary number.  So if you feel like sharing one thing, please do so.  If you feel like sharing ten things, have at it.

Let's stop worrying about numbers and begin.

1.  These pictures were taken back when I used to actually take photographs of Mathews County and not my crazy family or scenes from the front seat of a moving automobile the back yard.  But as I've mentioned ad nauseam, I haven't had any time to go on one of my infamous local adventures, so old pictures will have to suffice for the time being.

2.  I saw four white ducks swimming in a ditch beside Route 198/Buckley Hall Road coming home from work today.  For those unfamiliar with Mathews County, we don't typically see ducks swimming in roadside ditches around here.  Herons hunting frogs or whatever they hunt are a familiar scene in our ditches.  But ducks?  Not ever usually.

3a. I appreciate everyone who gave me suggestions in yesterday's post regarding my computer quandary. Please keep them coming, because it will be a while before I can make the trek to Best Buy or wherever to get anything. But I do sincerely thank you for your input.

3b.  If you have a chance, click here for my mother's blog post about the climb to the top of the Hatteras lighthouse last week. Also click here for my neighbor's account of our recent boat ride up and down Queens Creek.

Now it's your turn to share three things. Or four things.  Five things.  Or more things.

Whatever you want.

Three Things

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where I share three things and hopefully you do too.

Let's start.

1. Today I will accompany the owner of Sandpiper Reef on a very important catering mission in the county. I can't wait. Although I am tempted to wear the crab hat on this noteworthy journey, common decorum sense dictates otherwise.  At least this time.

2. Later today I will meet up with my college roommate, Iris, and her family.  Twenty five years ago this May we graduated.  From college. It seems like only yesterday.

3. All my tomato plants are gone thanks to some killer, mutant, blood-sucking, Only in Mathews County creature the size of an anaconda, with horns, fangs, and a million legs--all of which were clutching nastily (it's a word) to my poor little helpless plants.  I swatted them all clear across the yard like softballs, but it's too late for my precious tomato plants.  Thankfully, my daughter has some tomatoes doing well in another part of the yard, and my mother has the Garden of Eden next door.  So we will not be without tomatoes this summer. Still, this will be the first time in four years there will be no tomatoes at my back stoop.

3b.  Did I just say stoop?

Now it's your turn to share three or more things.  If one of them includes a way to organically fight killer, mutant, blood-sucking caterpillars the size of anacondas, I'm all fangs ears.

Last bridge photo,  I promise.

Three Things

Welcome to what used to be called Three Thing Thursday back when I posted on a more regular basis. The last time I posted on a Thursday was May 19, which is a sure-fire sign that things have been busy around here, to say the least.  Three Thing Thursday is where I share the three ring circus that is my life three things, and so do you.  Whatever happens to be on your mind. Anything at all.

Even if what you're thinking is, "Will CBW ever actually move this blog post along or is she going to lull us to sleep as she drags out this opening paragraph from here to the Cape of Good Hope Cape Charles and back?"

I'll go first.

1. Last night marked the first time I've ever arrived at a sports banquet--or any banquet, or any school related function of any sort for that matter--in a canoe.  Yes, Chesapeake Bay Son's end of the year soccer banquet was held at his teammate's house, which happens to be across the creek from us.  CB Son, delicately balancing the family's contribution of fruit salad and Pepsi Colas, took a kayak. Daughter and I took the canoe.  We ate, we clapped, we laughed and we ate some more.  Then we hopped in our boats and paddled back home.  Now that's my kind of sports banquet. Not one minute wasted behind the wheel of a car and not one drop of gasoline used.

2.  Oh, do I have a story to tell!  Remember a while back when I referenced a mysterious package left for me at Sandpiper Reef in Hallieford?  Well, over the past week the mystery behind who left that has slowly unfolded, and the entire story fills my heart with joy.  After I survive the next several days I'll work on putting the words down, but rest assured this story --which began over 25 years ago--is one of my favorite Life Stories thus far.

3.  The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, by this weekend I will send the first draft of the book on Mathews to the editor.  That does not  mean all the work is over, but one huge hurdle has been cleared.  I used to be a pretty good hurdler back in the day but this has been one tough race. Amen.

Now it's your turn to share three things.  Whatever you want.  Anything at all.

Thanks as always for stopping by and leaving your thoughts.  They make my day.

Three Things

Welcome to the day of the week known as Three Thing Thursday, where we share three things or three thoughts or three ideas or three suggestions or someone please take the needle off this record, it's skippin' somethin' awful.

Well then.  Let's begin.

1. The photo above was taken from my back yard Tuesday evening.  Just as yet another incredible dinner prepared by my mother was wrapping up, we realized there was a Coast Guard boat headed in our general direction.  Although they come up the creek periodically from Milford Haven, the Coast Guard never comes into Miller's Cove.  They went about as far as they felt comfortable particularly considering some crazy woman was pointing a camera at them then left as quickly as they came. Guess they were just out sightseeing.

2.  The Mathews County book I'm working on is due to the publisher by June 21.  Now, June 21 sounds like a long ways off and has for some time. It really sounds like a long ways off when you think it's still March (except it's May) and you can't remember if Easter has come or gone yet (it's long gone, honey, get with the program), and the situation is made more confusing by all the Easter baskets and chocolate bunnies still strewn about the house, creating visual reminders that Easter is either imminent or just barely gone (when, in fact, it's long gone).

May 21 is this Saturday, no matter what I think.  This means the book is due day after tomorrow in one month.

3. One month in CBW Time does not equate to 30 or 31 or even 28 days.  One month for me equals negative three days one and a half days when you subtract out all the time spent commuting, working, working, commuting, attending children's school events, working, driving, going somewhere, doing something, having no spare time and of course  dillydallying, dawdling maintaining a home and a yard.

In short, I have lots of Easter decorations to put away work to do, especially on the book, and only a few days in which to do it.

Now it's your turn to share three things.  Whatever you want.  Anything at all.

Three Things

Here we are once again at the day of the week called Thursday, which is when we are encouraged to share three random thoughts or observations.

I'll begin.

1.  This weekend is the big biking event--Bikes, Bands and the Bay--here in Mathews.  Every May, bikers from all over descend like flying monkeys wearing spandex and helmets come for the weekend to tour our flat, scenic county on two wheels.  According to the Gazette Journal, more than 700 bikers are expected. Those of us who live here know what this means.  Get your grocery shopping done today! It means plan ahead, share the road, and whatever you do, don't let your learner's permit-holding teenager behind the wheel take extra precautions while driving.  Click here for more information on this event, which includes food, music, and lots and lots of spandex. (Deborah knows what I'm talking about with the spandex.)

2.  These next four to six weeks are going to be brutal. In a couple weeks, I'll have to take vacation time from the paying job just to work on the non-paying job book.  Blog postings will be worse and worse sparser and sparser the closer I get to June.

3. There's nothing better than my mother's cooking.  Twice this week we've had the privilege of eating salad made with vegetables and herbs from her garden, and I don't know when I've had anything better.  Her homemade pizza is to die for.  Pretty much anything and everything she fixes is divine. The cooking gene seems to have skipped a generation with me.  The conclusion I draw from all this is the Chesapeake Bay Children and I need to spend more time over there eating good food and less time over here eating stuff that looks about as appealing as a science experiment struggling against  what Nature intended.  And Nature most definitely did not intend for me to be in a kitchen.

Now it's your turn to share three things.  Whatever you want.

Have a great day.

Three Things

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where I whine and complain about three or more things share three things and you shake your head and roll your eyes do too.

Without further ado, let's begin.

1.  My dishwasher now officially joins the very lengthy list of items in the Chesapeake Bay Family household that no longer work or require expensive extensive repairs.  Although the lights come on and it makes all sorts of moans and groans noises as if it's trying to wash dishes, there's no water entering the main compartment.  Now, if there's one thing I know, it's that water is one non-negotiable ingredient in the whole dishwashing process. A functioning dishwasher is one of the only things saving this family from being buried alive in dirty dishes.  This is very distressing to me.  Very distressing indeed.

2.  The windshield on my car sports not one but two very large cracks.  Unrelated to that, whenever it rains, water leaks through the passenger door onto the floorboard. The gushing river incoming water, which ultimately pools in the floor, somehow triggers the interior lights to come on spontaneously. Also, there is some required maintenance due, something to do with differentials or something.  And a recall notice came in the mail the other week. Can't even remember what that was about. Since I have no spare time, no spare car and daily responsibilities which require me to drive a minimum of 100 miles on a good day, the chances are not looking promising that any of these problems will be fixed any time soon. This, too, is very distressing.

3. Plus I have a book due soon and no time to work on it. Also, the paying job is trying to kill me with the workload. And we won't talk about the list of things that need doing around this house, because I already alluded to that above and where, exactly, is Eddie Money with those Two Tickets to Paradise he keeps promising? My bags are packed.

3.  Last evening after work, even though it was freezing cold rather brisk, someone was water skiing on the creek.  Ok, so nobody water skis around here any more.  (Why is that, exactly? I always loved water skiing. Lived for it even.)  They were flying behind a boat standing on one of those boards--is it a wakeboard? I have no idea what they're called.  It looks like fun, and I'll put it on the list of things I'd like to try, but I yearn to water skiing.

Anyway, I thought I'd contribute at least one thing that wasn't a complaint, and this was the best I could come up with. (It's pretty weak, at best, and still sounds whiney to me.)

4.  Calgon take me away. Please.

Now it's your turn.  Please share three (or more) things.  Whatever happens to be on your mind.

Click here for a musical rendition of what is on my mind right now.

Three Things

Here we are, once again, at the day of the week called Thursday, which is when I share three things and you (hopefully) share three things. There are no rules or regulations dictating what you should share, especially even as it relates to the number.  Three is just a suggestion.  Just share.

I'll go first.

1.  The photo above of the Islander was taken from my deck using the zoom lens.  To convey what that place meant to so many people is impossible to do in a blog post.  The story would, however, make a very nice movie or book. In a rural county whose main attraction (aside from its isolation) is its natural beauty and proximity to the water, the Islander provided Us Locals with recreational and social activities otherwise unheard of; and Them Tourists with an experience that simply could not be replicated.

2. Right now I could use an extended stay at the Islander, assuming the seafood buffet, the swimming pool and that upstairs lounge were still open for business. Even so, I'm ready to go.

3.  I'm looking forward to a vacation even if it involves a tent and no running water. Extended time away from Life is in order, and it's long overdue.

Now it's your turn.

Three Things

Scene from the end of Warehouse Road in Gloucester

Welcome to the day of the week known as  Three Thing Thursday, where you're encouraged to spew forth three random thoughts that happen to be on your mind at this very moment, no matter how insignificant they may seem.  If something's on your mind, there must be some significance.  Regardless, we don't judge significance or insignificance,  we just drone on and on about it until you want to start crying because this opening paragraph will never end we just say our three things and then carry on.

Let's begin.

1.  As I left work yesterday, the temperature registered 92 degrees.  If this sounds like a complaint, rest assured it is not.  I could have danced a jig and wallowed in that wonderful 92 degree weather just as soon as I left the building.  Instead, I opted to preserve my dignity calmly get in the car, roll down the windows, inhale the air which was as thick as shag carpeting due to the pollen, and luxuriate in the warm weather and its accompanying smells all the way home.

2.  Night before last was also warm, without a ripple of wind on the creek.  Gazing out onto that glass-like surface I told the Chesapeake Bay Children that we had to go for a canoe ride.  Realizing the imminent danger potential for disaster if we all three hopped into one tiny, unstable canoe, Chesapeake Bay Son opted for the rowboat while Daughter and I took the canoe out for a spin.  That evening marked the first time in 2011 that my bare feet touched creek mud.  It also marked the first time in my life that the tip of a very sharp, narrow, rigid piece of marsh grass went directly up my left nostril when I bent over to tend to something (likely related to my feet sinking in stinkin' creek mud).  Thankfully I was able to pull back before the reed came out my ear any major damage occurred.

3.  How did we get so close to the month of May without fully acknowledging and appreciating the month of March April?  It's almost May?  Really?

Now it's your turn.  Please share three (or more things)--whatever happens to be on your mind at the moment, whether it's weighing heavily or just quickly passing through much like a reed of marsh grass in a nostril.

Three Things

Today is Three Thing Thursday, where I share three things, and then hopefully you do too.

Except today I don't have three things to share.

Rather, I have lots to share but am much too tired overwhelmed by this week that will never end to do so.

So I leave you with three pictures of the lovely Chesapeake Bay.

This last one, of seemingly nothing yet anything but, is my favorite. I find its lack of busy-ness very soothing and could write a book on just how complex this seemingly simple picture actually is (at least to me).

Now it's your turn to share three things.  Whatever is on your mind.  Your cares, your worries, your joys, your sorrows. Whatever happens to be on your mind.

Happy Thursday.

Three Things

Miller's Cove, Queens Creek

Once again we find ourselves at Thursday, which has taken a mighty long time to arrive this week.  Thursday is when we share three (or more) thoughts, however random or seemingly insignificant.  Just because we can.

I'll go first.

1.  Saturday morning be sure to strap on your tennie-pumps (aka running or walking shoes) and head on down to Williams Wharf for the Third Annual Pet Castle 3-Mile Distance Run and Pet Walk on "the world's flattest 3-mile distance run course."  I can attest to its flatness; the only place flatter than Williams Wharf Road would have to be concave. It's my preferred place to jog/walk on my days off, and I most definitely don't do hills. Click here for more information.

2a. Saturday night there'll be a time goin' on in the Chesapeake Bay household.  A Girls' Night has been officially declared and my local blog friends Big Hair Envy; Noe Noe Girl; Deltaville Jamie; and Ann Marie will be convening for a night of laughter that will most definitely involve crab hats.

Dear Queens Creek Residents:  I apologize in advance for all the laughter that is bound to bounce up and down the creek that evening.  Also? You *may* hear some James Brown being played-- click here for an example.  However, if you happen to hear a woman singing louder than James, that will likely be Chesapeake Bay Mother.  Thanks in advance for your patience, cooperation, and understanding!

3.  Yesterday evening after work I went out to the daffodil field and picked a bucket full of sunshine.  In addition to the usual yellow suspects, the white ones are now in bloom. I think I filled seven vases.

Now it's your turn to share three thoughts.

And if you are interested in laughing until you cannot breathe, stop by my house on Saturday night.

p.s. Baby Sister, if you're reading this,  you need to get up and get yourself on down here Saturday night.

Three Things

Harcum, April 2009

Welcome to Three Thing Thursday, where I share three things and so do you. Hopefully.

Let's begin.

1.  Since there's been no spare time to take photos lately, I perused the archives for pictures taken around this time in years past.  This one of an old shed near the public landing at Harcum was taken two years ago, just before a particularly tumultuous time in my life.

"Particularly tumultuous" might be the understatement of the century.  Regardless, I took some of my favorite pictures during that time and am happy to regurgitate them now during another rather hectic period of my life.

2.  It's been cold and cloudy for the past several years days and I'm exhausted, which helps explain some of my whining above.

3.  Instead of talking about or alluding to  depressing negativity, I'd like to end on a positive note if only I could think of one.  Let's see... I am grateful for my family, my friends and their good health.  I am also grateful for strong, black coffee; sweet, home-brewed tea; and soccer games cancelled due to rain.  Oh, and kettle cooked potato chips. And popcorn made on top the stove the "old fashioned" way. Also salsa, preferably homemade with lots of cilantro and fresh jalapenos. Don't get me started on guacamole, also with cilantro and a dash of lime.

Now it's your turn to share three things, whatever happens to be floating around your mind at the moment.

Thank you for reading; thank you for tolerating my rambling commentary which starts off referencing Harcum and ends up with guacamole; but most of all thank you for your wonderful comments, which always make my day.
