Bethel Beach

The other day I drove to Bethel Beach for a quick visit.

It was an unusually calm, windless day.

Also unusual was the fact that the sun was out.

It feels like we've had nothing but rain and misery dreariness for months on end.

We all survived Christmas and I for one am very much looking forward to 2019.  To help motivate me to exercise more, which I desperately need to do, I've signed up for a half-marathon in Virginia Beach in March.  Whether I will be able to complete it remains to be seen.  My only goal is to be able to walk it and finish.  If I don't, though, I don't.

It wasn't that long ago when my goal was to finish these races without walking at all.  Given the six months of chemo and subsequent heart issues, however, I have to adjust my goals downwards.  It makes me a little mad, but it all just makes me want to do and be better.

So, here is to a healthier and happier 2019 for all of us.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year!

It's hard to believe 2016 is over already.

2016 was pretty good to me.

Compared to 2015, this was an absolutely wonderful year. So many good things happened, I'm really going to miss 2016. One of the things I'm not especially proud of, however, is that this blog languished in 2016. Much of 2015 too.

One of the many great parts of 2016 was receiving a brand spanking new fancy camera for Christmas. Opening that present brought me to tears, really. Although I'm still fumbling my way through the user manual, I'll be out and about snapping new photos with it soon.

So one of my goals for 2017 is to learn to use my beautiful new camera and blog at least once a week. I have a few other minor goals that I may or may not get to, but more frequent blogging is definitely high on the priority totem pole.

Although I loved 2016, I'm already looking forward to 2017. In February, I will travel to California for a mini-reunion with a few of the friends I've made through this blog. In March, Baby Sister and I are going on a trip-of-a-lifetime cruise! I cannot wait!

For the few people who still visit this rusty old blog, thank you for your patience as I try to polish it back up and get it back on track. It may take a while, but she'll be good as new here soon with a little TLC.

May 2017 be your best year yet!

In honor of surviving another year another year coming to a close, here are twelve months of Mathews County scenes.  Not all are from this particular year, thanks to my inability to organize photos properly. Or at all.

Which means when I need to look for, say, a photo from June of this year--it is just easier to use one from June 2012 since that's what I located first.

Anyway.

Thank you for visiting this crazy little space where I share my crazy little life from this quirky yet quaint and beautiful little part of the planet.

May 2014 be your best year yet.

Sky Blue

These are from a quick excursion to Aarons Beach
on the way to the grocery store yesterday.

I hadn't been to the store (or anywhere) in over a week,
and, by the way, Aarons Beach is not
on the way to anything but the Chesapeake Bay.

The sickness that had me flat on my back
last week has passed, and I finally feel human again.

Ready to take on a new year with new possibilities.

What's going on in your world?

The Door

Yellow side of the door as seen through one window.

These are all shots from different angles of the same door
on an old house in the middle of the woods down where I go jogging.

Same door, different side of the window.

Saturday after my run I took my camera for a walk in the woods to get some photos because I knew without the leaves on the trees the light would be decent. These days, because my camera has issues,
I need all the natural light I can get when taking pictures.

The house is in very bad shape but it still has some spunk and personality left to it.

Same door as seen through the kitchen window.

2011 has come to a close and 2012 awaits.  All we have to do is step through the door and see what lies ahead.

If we're talking about stepping through this particular door, though, I hope that you all step out into the bright sunny day and not backwards into the dilapidated house.

May your 2012 be bright and sunny and filled with adventures.

Happy New Year.
