Mother's Day Part II

With apologies for the poor quality due to the fact that the original has faded, here is a picture of my mother right after a year of college at William and Mary.

She had to quit because her mother was working a menial job and money was scarce. So she found a job at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. There some young photographer asked her to pose for him down on the beach, and thank goodness he did. We have about 10 pictures like this and they're all fabulous.

In honor of Mother's Day I'd like to share an entry from Chesapeake Bay Middle Sister's diary because it mentions a few things which are appropriate.

Dear Diary,

This is the first thing I've written you for 2 years. Just think, 5 years ago I wrote my first entry.

Well, today CB Older Sis and I went to see Nanny. We ate fried chicken and all sorts of good stuff. When we got back we all went to softball practice. We scrimmaged Ebenezer. We lost 11-12. It was close. We goofed off. Our best players weren't here. I pitched (ta-dum!!).

An Okay Day.
CB Middle Sis

Nanny was our mother's mother and is someone I think of and miss every single day. She made the best fried chicken you've ever put in your mouth and could whip up a feast out of nothing at all.

As one of the first females at Gloucester High School to receive a varsity letter in basketball, our mother was an incredible athlete and encouraged us to be active. Even after having three children, she played softball in the county league and made sure Middle Sis and I played on the team too. (Baby Sis was too young at the time.) I loved those games and to this day marvel at how well CB Mother could throw, hit and field the ball.

This is a rather wordy, convoluted way of saying a couple of key things:

-CB Mother's Mother was one of my favorite human beings ever.
-CB Mother is beautiful inside and out.
-I'm so grateful for her encouragement to play sports. Practically all of my fondest memories from my teenage years revolve around a sport of some sort.
-I'm grateful to her for all the sacrifices she made.
-I'm fortunate to have her right next door whenever I need her.

Happy Mother's Day.

Wowzer! What a beauty! Your mom was a pin-up girl, and boy did she miss her calling. I bet if she had circulated those pictures she would have found herself in movies...or magazines. Of course that would have landed the whole CB clan in so CA, and we could have been friends early on, and you might have been spoiled. Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself, or is it behind?

Happy Mother's day, my friend.

Happy Mother' Day.

GJ-You are absolutely correct about what might have happened if she'd circulated these at the time. The other shots from this series are spectacular. I'll show you in July.

B-I'll tell her you said so. She'll get a kick out of that.

Pueblo Girl- She really is.

Hope everyone has a fantastic day.

Thanks for posting this. Wish I could be there with you all today!!

Also, get a scanner, they are cool. You can call the 1-800 number on the box and they'll tell you how easy it is to use.

I need to get copies of that diary.... "an OK day"...what a hoot!

Love you!

Did you ever stop to think that the photographer probably printed sexy posters of CBMother, and she adorned the rooms of young men all over the country??? What a looker! I see where you get it...;)

Happy Mother's Day to both of you!

Yes, many thanks for your lovely posts about your Mum and her Mum. What a lovely looking person she was. Once again, I commend you for your love and words for her! Pity I am not getting to go to blogfest in July!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did.

MPM- I'm grateful to have her around. You and others who have lost their mothers are very much in my thoughts today.

Middle Sis - Wish you could've been here. Went to Sandpiper and Anonymous Hallieford Resident took us in without reservations. The blackened tuna was fabulous. Anyway, about that scanner. I have one. Just don't know how to use it. Don't ask. Moving right along....

BHE-She was in the Miss Virginia Pageant, a fact I had completely forgotten about. That photographer probably DID do something with those pictures.... hope you had a wonderful day as well. Your daughter is beautiful, too, and she happens to be able to pass as your twin. Can't wait to hear about the shrimp ball. Shrimp Brawl? The Shrimp Fest.

Not Moved Mom- Yes, Middle Sis and Mamma look like twins if you use this picture as the gauge. Baby Sis resembles her too. Hope you and your mother enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful day.

Annie- I'm so glad you were able to spend Mother's Day with your daughter &grandbaby (at least I'm assuming you did). If there is any way you can return in July, we'd love to have you at Blog Fest.

Happy DAY BEFORE MONDAY, and welcome to yet another night where I have nothing prepared for tomorrow's post, nothing in mind at all, and no time to write so all that equals: please have lower than usual expectations for Monday's post. Lower = subterranian.
