Beauty and the Beach

On Saturday after the ride on the work boat to the lighthouse, the Blog Festers traveled to Gwynn's Island for a day at the beach. Here, Audrey's Wonderful Daughter demonstrates Chesapeake Bay Woman's sure-fire way to cure what ails you: floating in Hills Bay.

This part of Love Fest Blog Fest best illustrated what I love about living here in Mathews: The surrounding natural beauty and its ability to calm, soothe and help you focus on what's important in life.

Speaking of beauty, here are a couple more shots of Blog Fest Beauties. I'm thinking we need to do a calendar next year.

Here's Audrey's Wonderful Daughter again. She's one of the most patient, funny, charming and witty young ladies I've ever met. How in the world she tolerated 3 days of grown women sitting around laughing, eating and talking is beyond me. She's gorgeous inside and out just like her mom.

This is lovely Daryl from New York City. (You have to say it with that twang like on the Pace salsa commercial. Nooooyaaaawkceety?) Yes indeed Ms. Daryl came from the Big Apple and gave me a fabulous necklace that I'm never taking off. Ever.

There are so many pictures and stories to share and tell, but right now my brain is fried and my body has gone on strike until it receives at least 8 hours of sleep. Next year's Blog Fest needs to come with a warning label: Be sure to schedule a vacation after spending 3 days with bloggers.

Please go back to yesterday's post and link on to some of the Blog Festers' sites. There are lots of incredible pictures that you won't want to miss.

I'm loving all the wonderful pictures. I am like the worst photographer ever. I spent most of my time soaking it all in, and loving your whole world...and your parent's too.

I didn't post the photos of CB children taking me and Meg on our grand tour of the grounds on the John Deere, but let them know it was the highlight of my visit.

Thank you for treating me like a queen, I am humbled by your hospitality.

ah, that southern hospitality, eh, Grandma J?

I am loving it all...have tuned in to all the photos so far! Thanks everyone...and thanks for cbw who has trebled her photo upload/download/whatever for one of her blog posts!

Sitting here nursing my stupid thrombosis...knew I should have stayed for blogfest instead of coming home!!

Grandma J, you are the queen. The queen of fun! I heard that I missed out on all the comedy routines going on over at the 'main house'.
And CBW, that necklace looks awesome on you.

I am seriously missing that place. And the people. Oh, the people....

Found you via Chronicles of a Country Girl and have enjoyed my visit here. I've not been to Mathews County in thirty, or more!, years and loved seeing the photos. Some of us would visit Mathews County, camp for the weekend and get away from Richmond. Thanks for the visit and the memories.

Love all your photography and the words to go with them. I can not describe how I felt while I was there...but I can tell you how I feel right now...depressed. I wish we all lived right there on that lane..or at least within 20 minutes of each other.

She is indeed one of the gems in my crown jewels...and yeah, being Meg's mama, I'm a tad biased.

Thank you so much for your kind words about my girl. It goes without saying we had a blast down there. I'm still thinking about that boat ride and the dolphins. It was almost surreal.

I miss everything about Mathews. Especially the people and most importantly, a certain little family that inhabits the shores of Queen's Creek.

Sounds like everyone had a good time! Excellent! And I'm not a member of Gustav's fan club... a celebrity from my own home!

I so enjoyed meeting everyone and wished I could have spent more time with you all, you all are wonderful people just like I imagined, that picture of Janice on the boat is just perfect and says so much about her!!!! I am so glad you all came and got to see what is so great about our little neck of the woods and why some of us can move all the way to California for 15 years and still come home!! And Foolery she just lists her address as chico so you have to ask her if her mom is Rose cause I've got to know!!! My word verification is redsheup I think that was what the one lady made when she mixed the red and white together!!!

Kitty Litter(not for long he went bact to Fish Factory) and I am not gonna sign that but tell your mom is good for her garden/flowers

Thank you for having Haden and I at your home, I really enjoyed it.

...And btw CBW, you are very pretty. I mean like ssssmokin'...*sizzle* lol... ;o)

...You know, not to long ago, my doctor told me that I may have to consider moving to a warmer climate due to my illness and my husband has already been asking me if it comes down to it where have I been thinking about moving to if it has to happen. He was asking California, Florida, where? And I replied, Mathews Co. Virginia...lol Seriously. :o)

...Anyway, I'm off to visit the other folks here and hopefully get to see more photos. Thanks you all for sharing your memories with us that didn't get to attend! :o)

Well, it sounds like everyone had a great time! I wish I could have come out and met ya'll. You know, the dolphins now have new meaning to me.

A few weeks ago at Haven, I heard a woman exclaim "Oh, look at those things out there swimming" She proceeded to get her binoculars, and informed her friend that they were sealions! So for me I can't see a dolphin without thinking about sealions!! HEHE

I'm new to blogging, sorry I missed Blog Fest, but love reading your blog- makes me homesick for Deltaville and surrounding area- but I am heading down this weekend- woot woot can't wait to float around the water and relax and do some paranormal investigations at Old House Woods :)

I enjoyed reading the article on your blogfest and checking out your blog for the first time today. Some of it is very funny!

I date a gal from there or I should say a transplant to there and I find funny how technology just clearly missed Mathews. She has no cable, my cell does not work there unless I'm at Bethel Beach and who wants a phone while being there. I can not get on the internet while there, (did I say she got rid of her hard wired phone) unless the guy, that’s on the tugboat 10 days straight is home and I can hijack his 3G connection for a few minutes J

With all that said I love my visits to Mathews and the people there.

Take care,

Bill in Mechanicsville
