Three Things

Is this a heron or one of our mutant mosquitoes?
It's hard to tell the difference these days, the insects are so big.

Welcome to another Thursday, which is the day we are encouraged to share three things.

Let's go.

1. Yesterday was my parents' anniversary.    Click here to read my mother's blog post on the topic. They actually spent their anniversary attending Chesapeake Bay Daughter's first soccer game of the season. I couldn't be there because Chesapeake Bay Son had a cross country meet at exactly the same time. I can't thank them enough for being there for her.

2. The Mathews High School Cross Country teams (girls and boys) won against Middlesex yesterday on the campus of Rappahannock Community College. The mosquitoes were ferocious--I swear they had teeth-- and the evening was sweltering hot, but they did very well in spite of the adverse conditions.

3. The mosquitoes around here now are definitely a new breed. Fighting Mermaid may have hit the nail on the head in the Comments last night when she said this herd flock may have arrived from the Amazon courtesy of Hurricane Irene.  On Facebook recently, someone said these mosquitoes were so big they had bones. Another person said he saw a tick on one of them. These things are BIG.

Now it's your turn. Please share three or more things on whatever topic happens to come to mind. Anything to distract us from the scratching and itching of biting, mutant mosquitoes that are the size of herons.

Happy Anniversary to your parents! Just wonderful that they attended your daughter's soccer match.
The mosquitos are plentiful here this year too. (What is the plural of mosquito? No matter how I spell it it is highlighted as being wrong). Winged devils with teeth maybe?
Congrats to your son for winning his meet!
Nothing much going on here which is quite a change from earlier this summer. Thankful for the calm...
Hope you have a great weekend! We actually have plans to attend a couple of fun events-

1. I saw a mosquito carry off a small child when I was down there couple weeks ago. I think it was taking it to its nest to feed its young.

2. I'm getting sick of rain and of how it makes me want to sleep.

3. I don't have anything else to share... I think that's a first

1. Congratulations to your parents on their wedding anniversary and to the CB Kids on their sports victories. With the weather so warm and everyone so sweaty, are the mosquitoes splash landing? Do they then just get stuck there?
2. Today is the final day of a 6 year project i've been working, award ceremonies all day long - it seems anti-climatic.
3. I ain't got no more stuff today.

1. I've never had poison ivy but my mother seems to get it at least once every summer/fall.

2. Plays about Samauri Vampires are just weird.

3. I wish I could just go back to bed, cuddle up, and read my good book.

1. I've not noticed an uptick in mosquitos in Central MD, but I have noticed these freakishly large yellow jacket-looking things that fly rather lazily around and buzzzzz really LOUD. They are, like, yellow jackets on steroids or something.

2. Refinancing a mortgage is a pain in the ASS.

3. Congrats to your folks and go CB kids - go faster, stronger, higher! Beat that other team! Or, whatever...

I enjoyed your mom's post yesterday, and wished them both all the best.
1. I love using expressions like that, because I end up with "both all" which looks so funny and is probably oh-so-wrong, but I've worked with the English language all my life so now I get to play with it.
2. Our dog has different strokes for different folks. She wants to go out to the back yard after a walk with my husband, but not after a walk with me. When I let her in the back door, she sits down inside to have leaves and twigs brushed off her. She doesn't do that for him.
3. I've started writing poetry. Well, doggerel. My husband doesn't understand how that will help cure my writer's block so I can finish writing An Unfittie's Guide. I don't understand my husband.

Wow. We've had more mosquitoes that's for sure, but none of them are of mutant proportions. Geez.

I'm a day late,sorry.

1. The little family is packing up to leave NYC. I might never get to visit again. ;-(
2. I am being very lazy and watching the Davis Cup on tv instead of cleaning the house. Can Hewitt beat Federer, that is the question.
3. I can hear the plover outside attacking people..tough work when there are people walking past all day. Wonder why it chooses an empty paddock in suburbia to rear the young. Last year there were hair-raising moments when the babies, who were a bit older but not really flying yet, wandered off each day to cross the busy street. Hope they will be more sensible this year.

My life gets very exciting as you can see.

Have a great weekend, CBW, and Happy Anniversary to your Mum and Dad.

1. Having spent many summers in the area I can agree that after tropical storms or nor'easters the mosquitos are bigger. My grandmother who was a native of Tidewater said they blew in from the Eastern Shore. Sometimes I think that herons are their parents.

2. After Hurricane Isabel and Tropical Storm Hannah a few years ago we got poison sumac in our gardens at the cottage where the water had risen, and, apparently, brought in the seeds. I got poison sumac on my neck. Awful stuff! I don't wish it on anyone. I recognized the poison ivy but not the sumac until it was too late. Funny thing is, I don't get Poison Ivy.

3. Heading to Paradise on the Piankatank on Sunday!

We managed to shoot one of those mosquitoes last week. Used a tractor to drag it down to the Methodist Church at Susan and hung it from the steeple. Folks came from as far away as Onemo just to admire it.

Collards Eater - First of all, I LOVE collards and could eat them breakfast, lunch and supper. Second of all, thank you for making me laugh, not a small feat after I've stood in rain all day long at a cross country meet 50 miles away from home.

Thanks to all of you for reading and commenting.

Upon further reflection I now think I had a really bad case of chiggers vs. poison ivy, after discussing with a neighbor of mine whose daughter had to go to the doctor for an identical rash/scratching. See, I knew I wasn't allergic to poison ivy...
